So is that a "no"?

The issue is that you're looking through the lens of what you think is currently best for yourself. Some are looking through the lens of what's best for the group. The rational choice is not scalable between them. The rational choice for the individual is not the rational choice for the group. So we have this divide. Should the group kick people out who choose not to act in the best interests of the group? Maybe suspend EMTALA and identify people who no longer qualify to receive treatment.

And you’re not? Everyone is looking through a lens of what’s best for them lol

Everyone here for the authoritarian lock downs, in favor of arbitrary authoritarian rules on what is essential, making decisions for everyone else based on stupid forecasts, and putting so much faith in talking heads has not offered one iota of factual data or evidence to support why it’s necessary.

Why is there only fear mongering?

Dont forget they turned Javits Center into a 3500 bed hospital and there’s like 200 people in there. I also read that Medical people who came to New York to work at the hospitals because they were supposedly overloaded can’t find jobs.

Right. And some healthcare workers are getting furloughed.

Let's get a list started for those who are willing to go on record to not take a bed and ventilator WHEN they get infected.

Put up or shut up tough guys. Just minding my business because you idiots will eventually get what's coming. Just don't affect how people I care about get treatment. Since we are being selfish, the more DNRs the better for my "selfish" desires of saving those worth saving.

It’s us vs them, name calling, and hostility then?

You all have no argument so are resorting to bullying?

LOL.

Maybe you should step back, take a breath and find some data to support your beliefs.

Some people think that their own best interest is furthered by the success of the collective. Some don't. Classic prisoner's dilemma.

Are you willing to wear the risk of being wrong?

You have chosen the position of your own interests over the collective. At that point isn't it you vs the group by your own logic?

Good idea. Lets not teach our youth anything. Lets not even show them how much smarter we are. Lets just ignore them. They won't listen to us anyways.

My apologies. I’m guilty of being too quick to reply without thinking it out first. I just get really upset when people don’t think through how their action (or inaction) might affect others.
I just turned 65 and looking forward to retirement and have a newish grandson AND, I’m frankly afraid of having to be on a ventilator at my age.
Sorry if I was too harsh. Probably sounded like “Hey...get off my lawn!”

It was a little funny... :bounce:

Life is good. We all want to enjoy family and have a happy and healthy retirement. Unfortunately, some contributors to this thread believe that you, at 65, are expendable.

Some people want to reopen society because after 2-3 more weeks of this totalitarian lockdown shit they won't have money to feed and clothe their kids, or keep a roof over their heads...

When a family of 4 can't live indefinitely off their savings they're fiscally irresponsible. If United or Boeing can't do it, we give them billions of dollars of free money.

Anyway, we're all assuming this is all done with our best interests in mind and irreversibly wrecking the economy will actually save lives.

Two things to add to this.

1) Those people were in poor health prior to contracting the virus.
Combinations of hypertension, diabetes and histories of smoking. So im my opinion, these people killed themselves.

2) From January to April, that is the only instance the CDC could find of this occurring anywhere in our county. Out of the thousand of gatherings from January to April, this is the ONLY example of this happening? Hasn't happened anywhere else? In my opinion, that is a very week argument for shelter in place.

Also would like to point out that less than 1% of the people that die from this have no underlying conditions.

People need to mind their own business. Just because you are terrified and want to be barricaded in you house doesn't mean other people should feel the same way. It just be me but the virus is just doing a little spring cleaning.
I’m curious - do you have anyone in your life, be they family, friend, respected co-worker, whom you love, and who is in poor or compromised health?

If so, and they contract this disease and die from it, are you planning to tell all the mourners that they did this to themselves?

Are you sure you don't want to take as many breaths as you can, while you still can, with your uneducated beliefs?

Hostility? Don't be too kind. Nature will run its course for those (maybe you) who wish to be idiots.

I think you're thinking too small of a scope.

If any of the large companies such as Boeing, Lockheed, Northrup, etc., go under, you're talking about HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of families being directly affected, not just a single family of four.

That would sink entire cities or states.

Might be a simplistic way of putting it, but a family of 4 or 100k families PER COMPANY?

And that's not counting the collateral damage of its subs, partners, etc?

What about those employed by supply chains that are indirectly affected?

"Too big to fail" allows corporations like that to operate in a fiscally irresponsible manner because they will always get free money if they **** up.

In the beginning, better safe than sorry makes a lot of sense.

The longer this has gone on, the more evidence there is that the response is arbitrary and overwhelmingly unnecessary.

Not at all.

Plenty of healthy people not at high risk have been thrown out of their livelihoods. Good standing citizens are being fined, profiled and jailed for absurd, arbitrary authoritarian reasons. Those collectives are being treated very unfairly.

The longer that goes on, the more it looks like an authoritarian power grab based on lies and bad info.

From a fellow old-ish guy, I appreciate your response and your point of view.

No more proof needed than your petty 3rd grade outbursts for having lost the argument and the plot.

With the whole SBA PPP and EIDL funding fiasco and challenges going on, I don't disagree and most small businesses didn't have a choice in this matter. From a small business and single family perspective, it seems unfair because it seems so easy for the larger companies to get bailout money even when wounds are self inflicted. It's not like Boeing wasn't already in distress with the 737 Max issues prior to the shutdown.

Not saying it is the right decision to bail out large corporations, but the consequences of not doing it is far greater and I can see why they do it. If you asked any of us who have worked in the industry, I don't think anyone would deny fiscal irresponsibility in how these large companies operate. Just 'insert company name here'.
