Is it similar to using tax payer money to pay taxpayers at the expense of yet to be taxpayers? Or the oppressive system we have where we have to pay taxes yet have next to zero direct say so as to how it's spent? Including extensive luxury vacations and lifetime health care and retirement etc etc.

Stop thinking our system is perfect. It ain't. Socialism probably isn't the cure, but capitalism is doomed for failure forever and always. Has in the past. Will in the future.

We'd all have a lot more available to us, if the top 3% didn't horde 90% all the wealth that they'll never be able to spend in 10 lifetimes.

They’ve accumulated the wealth, not hoarded it. Huge difference. There isn’t a fixed pie where they’ve taken slices away from you, instead the pie has grown in size and they’ve taken the majority of that growth.

Why is that? For that you have to look at all the tax and trade policies, and lobbyist spending (payment to politicians for enacting laws drafted by said lobbyists) driving that outcome.

People like to think D’s are the party of common folk. In reality, they’re a core part of why common folk have been hollowed out, along with a large segment of Rs, leading to massive unequal accumulation of wealth. It’s relatively easy to track the wealthy politicians. Besides insider trading, how do you think they all get rich after decades in office?

That's not even remotely true. Not even remotely.

Soviet Union beat us to space.
Germany had better rockets.
The US spent a shit ton of cash on the space race and brought in many of those Nazi scientists that built those German rockets and later ours.
None of that was capitalism.

The internet... a government experiment
Google... received government funding
Amazon... built on the backs of work done by the government
IBM...

Technological advances happen when a large body decides to invest greatly in reaching for those advances - this is 9/10 when a government decides to make shit happen not some random guy in his garage.
 
I’ve had a pretty easy life. Good health, good education, good job, good family, due in large part to good parents. My parents grew up rather poor in a small town. My mother lost two siblings in three days due to the diphtheria epidemic of the 1920s, which killed 15,000 each year (mostly children) until an effective vaccine was widely used in the 1930s. They lived through the Great Depression, the polio epidemic, and both served during WW2. Due to their early life experiences they were very self sufficient. They were thrifty, hard workers and savers, problem solvers, survivors, and thankful for everything they had. Despite the turmoil and hardship of their early years they did very well as adults, as did a lot of people in their generation, often called “the greatest generation”. What hardships I’ve gone through in my life, and going through now, is nothing in comparison.

We don’t yet know what will change and what our lives will be like in the future as our country emerges and the economy recovers from this pandemic. But maybe someday people will look back and say our response was proper. Maybe we’ll be known as the pretty good generation.

I'm as young as a Boomer can be, and I would call not only us but the Millennials "the divided generations".
 
Just want to give a couple updates and reminders.

In Illinois, travel has been deemed ESSENTIAL if your daughter is training to be a professional equestrian rider. It is known that they have a ranch in Florida and it is also known that their daughter has been training to be a professional equestrian rider. Pritzkers wife apparently took a vacation to their Florida horse ranch. This is our Illinois gov who claims Illinois isnt close to its peak yet and the virus is still spreading like wildfire. So he let his wife and their staff who according to his news briefings have a high probability of being infected travel to another state, where obviously restrictions have been being relaxed to infect other people.

Also Pritzker has made it known that he will keep the stay at home order going as long as possible for the Feds to bailout the Illinois pension system which is the absolute worst in the country. And his 2021 budge calls for and additional 4 billion in state spending and does not include pension relief. He is following the advice of another famous democrat who once said to never let a crisis go to waste. So if you want your federal tax dollars to go to Illinois state unions, please, keep advocating for the stay at home orders to save the Illinois pension. Im sorry I meant to say to save lives.

Also to remind you that the Chicago mayor was busted getting her haircut and styled right after making a public statement about how going to a salon or barber shop is non essential. Even took photos with the stylist standing less than a foot from her and nobody was wearing a mask in the picture.

Also the deadliest county per capita in IL isnt even near Chicago. Its downstate. In a county of 9700 people, 3 people have died from coronavirus. According to those county officials, they were in a nursing home on hospice.

rockets and internet. you really think that is the ONLY technology that has advanced? there are millions of products used every day that we have because of capitalism. just because a government stole some money from its citizens and did something with it, does not in any way negate the advances by all the private companies out there.

those were just two examples. one of which is one of the most important for the society we currently live in.
and, NASA didn't just develop rockets (baby formula, modern tires...)

But let's continue with a few other examples, shall we?
Penicillin - discovered by Alexander Fleming while working at an NHS hospital's lab.
Marie Curie working for a public university with a commission for her lab...
Nuclear Power...
Touch screens...
the Flu vaccine...
GPS...

I'm not saying, and never have, that all advances are government funded. However, federally funded research drives 1/3 of all new patents, in the US alone.
