Hope the driver is ok...

Last night on my way home from Norwalk, Ca on the 5 fwy South I saw a newer Silver Sport Edition Runner on its roof. The police had just gotten on the scene. We had a freak down pour (it was suppose to be sunny) and the street were flooded. Hopefully they are ok.

The Runner appeared to hold up pretty well...thank goodness.

But you have to wonder if that person thought to himself, "Oh I have a 4 Runner; I can drive without caution." Having a SUV does not mean you are not susceptable to weather conditions.

I hope this does not become a board where everytime someone see a 4Runner in an accident someone is gonna post, I hope the driver and any passengers are alright but it seems certain members are more concerned about the vehicle then the passengers, why else would 1 post about a 4Runner accident.

I wonder the same thing, most accidents are driver error and I've noticed most people drive just as fast or faster in the rain then when it's dry, probably lack of knowledge and experience, to avoid that accident all 1 had to do was slow down.

Lots of things contibute to the so called driver behind the wheel, commercials with cars sliding every which way in an emergency manuver and then driving off don't help someone who can not even parallel park the things or drive between 2 object but an 18 wheeler could, do these people even know their cars, then you have the traction control or vehicle skid control system which only help but after certain speeds are useless.

It scares me to think that we share the road with people who look at vehicles as transportation from a to b and the morons who think the roads are public race ways, many times I see giant SUV tailgating someone who is already doing 80mph and just think if the guy was to stop the SUV will need twice the room to stop.

Fresh Rain

Saavy drivers have learned that one of the most dangerous driving conditions out there is a fresh, light rain. A liitle water, mixed with a layer of dust, and petroleum by products, is 'bout a slick as owl sh**. Only thing greasier is a front Metzler on a wet tree root.

Slow down a little - we're all going the same place! These big ole' comfortable rides aren't designed to go fast. If you put 'em in a bind, they won't bail you out; they are not very forgiving.

Metzler street motorcycle tire. I understood the reference but how did the tree root get under the tire?

Sorry, I was vague. There seem to be a whole lot of folks with motorcycle experience here. Yes, ToolmanJohn, it is a bike tire. And while Metzler prob makes a good street tire, for years they were THE choice for precise handing on the front of motocrossers, especially in sandy loam. With so many wonderful ways to go over the bars, talk often focused on the most hazardous [slick] conditions: snow & ice, mud, water, algae, wet rocks, etc. Seems like the concensus was always an exposed wet tree root. It's like you couldn't even feel the contact; you just went right down.

Krashmytoy - Don't know about a melvin, but I'll let you decide if a footpeg up the a$$ qualifies as a wedgie!

I never had any MX experience only street bikes. BUT you are 100% correct EXTEX, a tree root under the front tire is no mans land. I ride XC a mountain bike (first club ride TONIGHT!!!) and riding over damp or wet tree roots is a no no especially if they are on any kind of angle. The only way to actually roll over them is perpendicular to the root. Otherwise I must "unweight" as I go over them or avoid altogether. Or crash. There's always that third option I don't like the third option.

First off...seriously?

The reason I posted was three-fold.

1. To let everyone know a fellow 4runner brother or sister may have been hurt in an accident. And I hope they are alright.

2. The crazy down pour we had.

3. Let everyone know that the 4runner holds up well in a roll over situation.

You don't have to read the post if you don't want to I thought we were all family here. I didn't realize caring about someone justified a flame. Go figure!
