I happen to need new tires and saw what I thought was a very good discount deal. No - I do not work with them or represent them in any way...just trying to pass along info if you need tires - I will likely pull the trigger this weekend on Continental CrossContact LX's. They will end up being about $565 out the door plus a $50 credit for future use for 4 of them.

As far as I know it is OK to post stuff like this. The discounts are a little confusing, why not say $200 off? I think this post would be better in the tire section though. I have bought from Kauffman Tires before. They are OK, I have bought Toyo tires for my Acura from them.

why not just get them from tirerack.com for $116 each? should be about $540 shipped... and you can get the road hazard warranty too just in case. doesn't seem that great a deal when you have to do all that other stuff to get the discounts.

The thing about tirerack is that you have to install the tires, who does that, what does it cost? Then you have to rotate & balance the tires, you have to figure in that cost as most places, like Kauffman do it for free when you get tires from them.

I now buy tires at Discount Tire, but a Kauffman Tire has opened up about 1/2 mile away from the Discount Tire. It is good to have competition.

I have used tirerack.com before and think they are very good. But in this case the numbers simply arent in their favor.

Kauffman is about a mile from my house and I know them and, to some degree trust them. I dont have to order, wait, load the tires in my car and find a place to put them on. As someone else said, maintenance is covered for free. God forbid I have a warranty problem.

As for their $200 marketing campaign, everybody is always looking for a new and creative way to skin that cat. I concur about $50 of it being on a credit on one of there credit cards. Last thing I want is another credit card, that is why I did not reference the $50 in the deal total. I am sure they would give you the first $150 for doing nothing and not applying for the card...

As I've posted in a reply to you earlier, in another thread, I have the Cross Contacts and now just love them. It took a while to break them in, but the ride has softened up, they are incredibly quiet and they have the best wet traction of any truck tire I've had...and I am comparing the Silent Armors, the Cross Terrains, the LTX MS.

I bought mine from Discount Tire and was out the door with all 4 - mounting, balancing, stems, warranty - for $548. Michelins and Goodyears would cost $800 out the door.

No doubt, a great bang for the buck.

coolpop - things keep changing. I confirmed pricing from Kauffman earlier today and they are now $736.99 (driveout for 4 including everything), not a big difference. I called Discount at your advice and got a driveout price of $610.44. I was kind of shocked but what really surprised me was the guy I talked to on the phone. He didnt even want to give me the price because these 'are such bad tires I wouldn't advise you to buy them'. HE claimed they don't wear well, they dont ride well, they have bad traction...they just dont do anything right. He recommended the Yoko Geo HT at $716.76. Hopefully he is full of BS for both of us.

That's just ridiculous. The manager at the Discount Tire here in Jacksonville raved about these tires, told me how good they were and how people who bought them were just loving them.

As far as the Yokos go, well, I've heard that they ride somewhat harshly and that the tread doesn't last very long, but I'm sure opinions will vary. And it's been my experience that when a salesman steers you away from one product and towards another that he may just be ordered to push that particular product or may get a bigger commission from it.

All I can do is give you my views on the Cross Contact, since I've had them for about 4 months now. And, if you check out the Tire Rack's ratings, you'll see how highly ranked they are by people who actually have them.

My advice is to go for it. They are a great bargain for what you get.

That is bad the dealer slamming the tires. I had Kauffman Tires tell me not to get Michelin Cross Terrians, they do not last and they handle terrible. (My take on it, they are pushing another tire, for more profit to them.)

I have found Discount Tire hard to beat, they rotate your tires, even if you don't buy form them. One thing, I had a flat and had to strip off a bolt to get the tire off, Kauffman Tire fixed it. Later I had trouble with another bolt that was cross threaded and Discount Tire said they could not fix it, you have to go to another tire place for that. I would say, go with the tire you want and the place you want to use. They both have their pluses and minuses.

the cross terrains are really good tires... i have 35k miles on them so far and im sure they'll go to 50-60k. But I dont think I'll ever get them again... way too expensive. I'll probably get the continentals once the michelins wear out.
