Horrible Noise!!

So recently, everytime i start up my 4runner in the morning....after about 5 mins, it begins to make a absolutely annoying and horribly loud "Whailing" noise...like its screaming. Odd thing is....about 5-10 mins later of driving, it goes away and does not do it for the rest of the day, no matter how long/far i drive or how long it sits that day (ie. 8-10 hrs while im at work) but does it every morning after sitting over night. Any ideas?

Also....one noise im very worried about. Only does it during gradual acceleration between 1500-3000rpms. Horrible "vibrating metal" sound or something similar. Any ideas on where to look or what to check? Thanks in advance.

If the sound is coming from the engine, it could be a bearing in the alt, water pump, or pulley, even a belt.

well I have a somewhat similar thing going on but I would call it a whistling noise when I crank it up, I have determined that it coems from the ABS unit under the hood. It does it only for a few seconds and then quits. Does this sound like what you have goin on? Otherwise it sounds like a typical bearing or belt issue like fourwd1 said. On the "metal" sound you really need to try and isolate where it's coming from somehow, to narrow down what to look at, otherwise it could be any number of moving parts/assemblies...

This is just a guess, but I know that there are pulley's that the timing belt turns while rotating. Perhaps you have a bearing going on one of those. I just replaced mine at 200K and they were beginning to go bad. It isn't too hard to get to the timing belt. Perhaps it would be worth a check.

Of course, you should look at your other belts first and make sure they aren't the problem. Like if your alternator or power steering were having issues.

Good luck!
