Houston to The Ozarks in Arkansas May 29th

Hello all, I'm planning a trip to The Ozarks for the weekend of May 29th. Was wondering if anyone wanted to join in on the adventure from Houston. We are gonna go thru the DFW area on our way to The Ozarks as well so we can meet up with anyone in the DFW that would like to join in. And also anyone in the area/region who can meet us at The Ozarks or maybe Fayetteville Arkansas would be great as well !

The trails we will be going on will be something a "stock" 4x4 Runner can manage, nothing extreme. I'm sure there will be things along the trails that can be more challenging if someone wished to do so. But more so on the main trails I would like it to be "stock" 4x4 friendly maybe even 4x2 capable?? never been there so cant really say.... And definitely awesome views.

This would be my first time to The Ozarks so I can't promise anything, I will however put in as much research as possible. Hopefully someone in the area/region of The Ozarks who knows some nice trails will join us.

This would be a good chance for some of us to meet and hang out, I plan to leave Houston late Friday 28th, early Saturday 29th. Stay Saturday night, hit a few trails early and head back to Houston. We can run trails, catch nice scenery, bbq, maybe a little fishing??? These are tentative plans, I'm open to suggestions, I hope there will be a few of you that can join in on this trip ! And of course, even if you cant go on the trip but know The Ozarks info would be greatly appreciated !

Google maps is your friend. Create your own map and route... you can't really go too wrong out there. Just look at topos and stick close to ridge lines and creeks.

I'm not sure of my schedule next month, but I'm always looking for an excuse to go to NW Arkansas.

Wow !! thanks for ALL the great info ! been reading up for hours and still not done reading up on your trips... I really hope you can make it out when I go, I didnt realize it was memorial weekend, so thinking about stayin till monday ! Im trying to figure out a way to do the may 6th run with you guys if you guys still have room... but the girls birthday is that weekend... and i dont know if i can convince her to spend it outdoors away from her friends!!! looking at your pictures.... don't think my stock runner can handle that water ! what do you think ?

The stock Runner would have made it, but it may not have been dry inside afterwards. The water was higher than normal, even for that time of year... it had rained hard the night before. Most of the year, a stock Runner would have been able to do that trail with style, except for that one creek crossing, which required a locker or a tug... either way doable, but not recommended alone.

Oh, thats great to know. I hope on not doing the run alone, I was considering a 3" lift on my runner for the purposes of crossing water. I don't think a snorkel will benifit much b/c the alternater is lower than the intake, and I really don't want to go into something that will go as high as my alternator. And I haven't checked in my runner yet but most Toyota store the ecu under the passenger floormats, so I don't know how some of the vehicles still run after water gets inside. Unless there is something i'm not aware of.

Thanks again for the great info, I will definatly be needing it ! I plan on going on many Overland adventures this year and the years to follow now that I have my career in order and can find the time to do it.

I have never had any problems with my alternator, and I've crossed stuff deeper than that. Toyota alternators don't really care... they will just shut off temporarily until they are no longer submerged.

My truck is a little too watertight, however. My truck will start trying to float before it will take on water.

Water in the computer is very bad.

If you are going to do LOTS of deep crossings, you may want to relocate the ECU.

I don't "want" to do a bunch of deep water crossings... I just Love going through backcountry trails to catch scenery and obviously the joy of off roading. Not really for any of the "extreme" off roading purposes such as, bogging, rock climbing, deep water crossing. I just love the fact that running trails gives you the element to do all of the mentioned above, you just don't have to go to the extreme measures of it (unless you choose) LoL.
