How 2 DISINFECT T4R???

I need to disinfect my 4Runner interior. How would you disinfect your interior? Thanks in advance! Here is my story.

I have a 2005 T4R V6 Limited and love it. It's perfect. I find myself driving it more than the car I race or my Ducati... Everyone who gets in it is amazed of how nice a place it is to spend time in.

Here in lies my problem, my favorite space was infected by a relative. I picked her up from the airport and drove her home a few hrs ago. She went on a trip to Egypt and the middle east. She was sicker than anyone I have met in at least 5 years. It was terrible, she suggested I disinfect it as she was coughing and such all over it for 45 minutes. She was sick for about 2 weeks prior to today and it's something mean.

I spent 1.5 hrs wiping down every hard surface with Lysol disinfectant wipes which claim to kill viruses and the likes. I used the full container of wipes. I then took out my weathertec floor liners and hosed them down on the side of my house. I then emptied half an aresol can of the same lysol product in the interior, on the exposed carpet and cloth areas, the headliner and the areas where buttons and controls are. I then turned the 4Runner on, blasted the fan with recirculate on, closed all the windows and doors, opened the sunroof half way and sprayed away hoping that the spray would be blown everywhere by the fan and air recirculating feature. I used about half the can of lysol aresol. the 4Runner is airing out now.

What would you do? what else can I do? what would you do different?

I would say call a car detailer and see if they have an "ozone generator" that's usually used to take out the stench from a heavy smoker. I would check to see if it disinfects as well, because I know that you aren't allowed to go into a car after it's had that treatment for quite some time, kind of like if you fumigated for fleas in a room.

I doubt she has anything serious. I've been to that region often. No serious airborne communicable diseases. I would consider changing the cabin air filter if you think she may have TB or something.

you can also run an a/c kit in the vehicle.

comes with all the connections and instructions on the kit, it contains two cans, one which is the A/C Power Foam & Refresher and a Ventilation System Refresher.

As a side note that doesnt work to remove smoke odor, my 05 smells horrible everytime i get in it and iave had that done twice and some sort of detailers enzyme treatment. Im considering selling it as the warmer it get out the worse it gets.

Charcoal

The damp charcoal will absorb much of the cigarette odor, without leaving any odd smell. The longer you leave the charcoal inside the car, the better it absorbs the cigarette smells. With a charcoal treatment, you can get that new car smell you get the day you bought your car.

Thanks for the help everyone! This is easily the best vehicle forum of all the other makes and models I use!

I'll call some detailers tomorrow, change the cabin air filter, look into the air foggers, A/C system kits and charcoal (maybe these can remove some of the Lysol smell!):lol:
Its been airing out in the garage ever since with the windows down, it prob will for a few more days.
I know I'm overdoing it but, I don't want the family to catch this. Sadley, Lysol only kills a few things, some things are unaffected by it.
I drove her to the doctor today as she was unable to do so. We took her Honda CRV. The doctor claims it is a virus, but that's a bit vague and didnt give me any useful information. We then drove to get an x-ray and buy her some grocries. She is feeling a bit better but missing a bunch of work. She thinks she got sick in Turkey.

Don't overthink this, good suggestions already but opening all the windows and take it for a freeway drive should alleviate your concerns.

Im not sure if this will disinfect it the same way pouring Lysol over the thing would, but I have a carpet shampoo'er that has the wand attachment. After owning the 03 for 6 days, my gf-now-wife had a bit too much Vino Verde and puked in her lap. Needless to say, i had to clean it asap and was out in the driveway til 5am cleaning it.

Now a days, i shampoo the floors and seats once a year. Cleans it well, smells great.

You should be fine with what you have done so far. If your still unsure you can try Envirocide. We used this stuff at work to disinfect our patrol cars and its much better and stronger than Lysol. It didn't harm the vehicle interior either.

Thanks for the help everyone! I believe the 4Runner is as good as new now, and I'll drive it the next chance I get. The bonus is that the interior is very clean . I just did a quick hand wash and hand dry followed by a quick detailer and it's looking as good as the day I bought it. My Aunt is getting better so I'm happy for her.
