How can I open my passanger door?

If my front passanger door wont unlock how do I get it open. For some reason toyota puts only 1 unlock hole on their doors and unfortunatly the passanger side is not the side with the hole.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've tried disconnecting the battery and trying but no luck and also trying to get it to budge but no luck on that either.

Since you have an 03 cant you take it to the stealer and just have them fix it under warranty?

Okay, where to begin?

1st off: It is out of BtB warrenty

2nd: I called the local dealership and the tech guy told me that the way to get the door open was to cut the interior panel out. and I asked him who would cover the cost of the cut panel and he told me that i would be paying for that. After he told me this; i told him that i shouldnt pay for the cut up door, he then replied, " It's not my broken lock!" I then let him go.

after the retarded tech call, i contacted toyota directlly to find out if there is a way to get the lock unlocked. they then told me they are putting in a complaint to the corporate liasion there at the dealership becusae the answer the tech gave me was not correct.

Toyota told me that since ive had plenty of problems with the truck they will investigate my service history and see if they can help me in any way.

Errrr......Couldn't you open your 4runner's doors by using the rear hatch's key opening hole. I believe it lowers the window and unlocks the doors if you turn it to the left twice. Someone else might chim in on this one to back me up. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to go out and try this method.........perhaps someone else here can verify it for you.

No luck for me, I tried that and it does the same the driver side lock does. just unlocks all the doors but the passanger front.

Have you tried to manually unlock the passenger door from the inside? The little knob by the lever itself. Instead of just the power door lock. Does the little knob move if you push it by hand?

It should unlock itself if you just try the lever, but you might have to manupilate it by hand.

nope i'v pulled and tugged, the damn thing won't budge. weird huh, its almost like the motor won't let it unlock.

Ok, so if the little knob wont budge the lock probably has frozen up or something. And I mean the the little manual lock unlock knob for the door and not the switch.

I would recommend that you stand outside the car, push very hard against the door (as hard as you can without denting it). The try to lock/unlock door with remote. Also try it with somebody on the inside trying to unlock the little knob as well as pulling the lever. WHat you want to do is get the lock to unfreeze as it probably jammed due to somebody pulling on the door lever while you were unlocking it with the remote.

Even if the electric lock is down, the person inside should be able to open it.

Once you have it open I would recommend that you put some slicon spray on the lock mechanisms.

If you cant get it open, probably phone a locksmith or go to the dealer (a good dealer that is)

Since it's an 03, shouldn't it still be under warranty ? My understanding is that you get 3 years bumper to bumper exlcuding normal wear and tear components (at least in Canada you get that). Not sure about the US.

3 year, 36k miles.


Bulldog has a good approach.


Door panels are not hard to take off. How much of the door panel can be removed with it closed? I've never looked.

Stop by any towing company and they will open it in about 30 sec.

yea, 3 years or 36K (which ever comes first)

The panel is completly covered by the doorway opening and the dashboard.

I'm still waiting on the Toyota people to call. and its been 4 days.

Never tried one on a 4runner, but how 'bout a SLIM JIM? It might pop the lock open.
