How come no love for Sequoia?

I see everyone always likes to jump up to the GX from T4R, but what about the sequoia? how come there's no love there?

Isn't is still a BOF design with a V8? Is it because it is just too big?

Are you talking about the 1st gen Sequioas or the huge ones?

The 4th gen 4Runner has the same exact drivetrain as the old Sequoias, just a bit updated with the 8" front diff and full time 4wd system. It's a bit smaller than the Sequioa but has a newer feeling interior.

The huge Sequoias have independent rear suspension, not great for offroading.

love it, but wouldn't buy it

Plenty of love from me, but at what Toyota charges, it is an inferior product. Period. I've driven Expedition EL and wow, very nice. I'm sure the Tahoo/Suburan are nice too, haven't driven a NEW one. The Sequoia is extremely long in the tooth. For almost $70 large, I wouldn't buy it either. I think it's a market thing, they (Toyota) see no future in the big SUV. If I remember correctly, it is set to be discontinued.

People move to the GX because they want a luxury trimmed 4Runner / LC Prado sized truck or because the lack of a V8 option on new 4Runners. It’s still smaller and more agile than the Sequoia so comparing the two in terms of upgrade path isn’t the best comparison.

Sequoia isn’t even on my radar when looking for a “large” SUV when options from other manufactures are much nicer. I like what GM has to offer, those trucks are pretty rad if you don’t buy a base model.

Plus, if off-road capability, performance, and pedigree is important, I’ll happily find myself in a Land Cruiser or LX. It’s easy to see why the Sequoia is glanced over when talking to enthusiasts.

I looked at a couple 1st gens before I got my 4Runner. They aren't bad and I dont know if its just me but the "toyota tax" doesnt seem as high on them either... opinions?

We strongly considered a Sequoia this year. Just was not impressed for the amount of $$$ for an interior that was so very bland. Secondly, the bigger size / lower MPGs did not seem to warrant the increased cost. So, we bought a 2018 Limited 4Runner instead.

Six months later, no regrets.

On another note, I like the Land Cruiser. However $84K for the same bland design just doesn't do it for me.
