So I bought this 1992 4runner SR5 V6 the week before last, but I didn't have anytime to work on it before I left for Idaho for a week. Can anyone tell me how I can figure out what type of hubs I have for 4WD?
How do I engage 4WD?

You just need to lock in your hub's and shift it into 4WD.

The dumb rims this thing has are kind of a pain in the ass to take the center piece off to lock the hubs. The visor Tells me how to use the 4WD system, but it gives instructions for both the ADD and the manual locking system. What on the dash would let me know if it was manual or automatic? Sorry if I sound like a complete idot, this is my first 4Runner

You'll need to look at the hubs to know for sure, nothing on the dash will tell you...
If they are factory rims, and the center cap is a Toyota logo, then they'll be auto-hubs, not manual. Toyota would leave the manual hubs accessible... If they're aftermarket, then you may be on your own. The previous owner of mine put covers over the hubs, so I had to remove the wheels to get the cover off to access the hubs.

If the front hubs don't say lock and free with a dial to turn then you have ADD. Another way to tell would to see if the front axle has an actuator on it, but checking the hubs should be easier for you. If you have aftermarket wheels with enclosed centers just pull one off to check.

If you have ADD, your front hubs will look like this, in which case, to operate 4wd, simply move the transfer case shift lever to 4hi/4lo.
If you have manual locking hubs, they look like this (minus the awesome rims and tires
). to use 4wd with locking hubs, first turn the dial on each front hub to the "lock" position, then move transfer case shift lever to 4hi/4lo.

AHH thank you SO much for posting the pictures. That helps, I have determined I have the ADD hubs. Nice not to have to get stuck and get out to get unstuck.
