How do you black out the tail-lights...

I've seen the look and really like it. I want to do it but have no idea how.
Can someone point me in the right direction.

[MENTION=202160]justagirl76[/MENTION] I've yet black out my tails on my 4runner (I just dont want too really). however I did it on my previous mazda.

First off I'd recommend for any mod taking the part off the car if possible. I've removed the taillights on my runner before to change bulbs, so its a simple process (just need a 10mm socket with extension if I remember correctly)

The first time I blacked out my tails I used VHT NiteShade, it comes in a spray can. While I liked the results at first, it began to crack down the road and would have required removing it and re-applying. This is probably the easiest way to do it if you don't mind having to re-apply down the road.

The second time I used Lamin-X film. This took a little more time/skill since I cut the film myself for my tail lights in particular. Still a fairly easy job though after doing online research, and IMO a much better and longer lasting solution.

I hate when people use that VHT spray... make their brake lights much more difficult to see. I hate the murdered-out look, really lame.

*disclaimer - I did this to my '94 Integra... in 1997. And then I removed it. A buffer did the trick.

Not necessarily true. Using a rag soaked in rubbing alcohol or even gasoline, and it should come off alright. At Least thats what worked for me in the past. :thumb3:

If you must, Plasti Dip Smoke. Easily reversible. If prepped correctly VHT may come off but your lens will be destroyed, because you have to use fine grit sandpaper or a scotchbrite pad to prep the surface first.

I just bought the depo trail type on amazon , want a dif look but not where someone behind me rearends me cause didn't see brake lights cause their head was down txtn !!!
