How do you carry your longboards/SUP?

I wanna know how you fit boards and a roof top tent! I can do one or the other, but not both. I have SUPs and long boards. I don't want a trailer.

Gobi setup or roundbar adapter sounds interesting.

Hard shell RTT with cross bars mounted on top of it for the SUP. Easy peasy.

I used to run my SUPs on my old Gobi, worked great, just pick up some Dakine pads for the front and back bars and you're set. Get some shovel attachments to use for paddles. Locking surf straps are a great option for security

You can also splurge and get a Thule SUP Taxi and those are easily removable to use the rack at other times.

My LR4 just had the Rhino Vortex racks for reference

Im trying to fab up some custom risers on my expedition roof rack that I can mount my Yakima Control towers to. It will allow me to use the Yacama rack crossbars will still preserving space underneath. It would also allow me to mail the rooftop tent up everyone and still have usable space beneath it. Will post a pic if this gets complicated.

Installed my Baja Rack a few months ago and bought some steel tubing and t-connectors...had everything powder coated and purchased FCS pads....work great to carry my kayak, paddleboard, and surfboards !!

SUPs and Kayak(s) together - Options?

New here - seems I cannot start a thread without replying to one so posting my question here. Has anyone had luck carrying SUPs and kayak(s) together on a roof rack? If so, what rack/components do you use?

Currently have a 2001 SR5 and use Dakine pads on factory rack for the SUPs and kayak hangs out the back window. Will be getting a pre-owned 16/17 or new 18 SR5 premium within the next month and do not want the kayak out the window anymore - the dust! TIA

I put them on my lowered car.

For the 4R I just installed a Gobi no-rise rack and will use my Dakine pads. My main board is super light CF so throwing it on the roof is a non issue. For a heavy all around board, or my kayaks, I imagine it will be a b!tch getting them on the roof myself. A 12’ board will stick way out of the rear window - so be careful with that.

I highly recommend Kanulocks for locking straps. Get the shorter ones. I bought the long version and they are more than long enough for 3 boards. Wish I got the regular length, though.

I want the kayak up top but do not know if there are any aftermarket bars wide enough to carry both side by side. Trying to figure that out before I buy. Weight isn't an issue for the kayak - it's a youth size - 9 ft, 26 pounds.

Yakima crossbars if I'm also bringing a hi-lift. Otherwise I just carry it on the stock crossbars.

Depends on what you’re willing to spend. You can buy attachments for the stock rack that lets you place a longer bar on top. Or a kayak rack that protrudes from its mounting point a bit. The problem is that you lose a few inches of space with the stock rails - so the adapter for longer bars is the way to go. Be sure to use bow and stern tie downs up top!

Edit - just realized the post above mine is using the adapter and longer bars! You can get even longer bars, but I wouldn’t stick out more than 4-6”. You whack your head, move your lashing anchor, and move the weight.

I swap the '10-'13 trail rack onto the '15 to keep it with the fleet. Couple inches higher than the buick style rack that is currently on the runners.

Digging this setup. Looks like you get into some good fishing holes with that setup.

Just bought our first 4Runner.. a 2018 TRD Off Road Premium and we're looking at crossbars and a roof rack.

With cost not being a deciding factor, which cross bars and roof rack do you all recommend? For crossbars it’s between factory, Thule aeroblade, and Yakima FlushBar.

For the board holder We're looking at Thule Sup Taxi vs Yakima Sup Dawg (mainly to transport our paddle board as we live at the beach).

I have used a Thule SUP Taxi for about 5 years and love it. It’s lockable and the straps ratchet into place making it pretty load & go. I added QuickFist mounts on the side of the racks for paddles.

Is there a way to mount a Thule surfboard/SUP carrier onto a Gobi stealth rack? It seems like the Thule is designed to be mounted to blade type crossbars...
