How do you check coil packs? 2000 4cyl

My 4runner is running on 3 cylinders. The spark plugs looks good. It has individual coil packs for each cylinder. The truck has 227,000 miles on it, but only 18,000 on the rebuilt engine. I think the coil packs may be bad. I found the spec
Resistance Secondary Coil cold 9.7-16.7 Kohms. I have four terminals on each coil pack. I check the different resistances between all terminals, most are either open loop or no resistance. One set has about 23,000 but its consistant on all coil packs. Anyone know how else or what else to check?

I might do that. I didn't get a code yet, but I think I'll put it back together and see what code it throws and try that.

I found the problem. I did a compression check and numbers 2 and 3 only make 50psi. Its got to be a head gasket. The rebuilt engine is still under warrenty. But this being the second major break down in a year I'm going to start looking for a newer car.

When my engine needed a valve job I had a place just rebuild it for me because it wasn't much more expensive. Its bored .020 over 2.8 liter! :guitar3:

Sounds like you picked the wrong place.
This could be as simple as valves too tight.
And with aftermarket shop involvement, its certainly a possibility.
