How do you clean a chamois?

I got a brand new large chamois for Father's Day and was washing my wife's car. I forgot that she had recently had a new windshield put in and the black rubber strip came off all over my chamois!
The black stuff comes off the 4Runner too, but not in this amount. I know throwing it in the washer will ruin it as my son did this to one of mine when he was washing his Brand X-Terra once. Any one have any ideas? I had thought of a soak in Simple Green ( I use that stuff for everything!) but have not tried it yet. Anyone have any experience to offer?

either wash it in a washer or you can use a pressure washer on it.

If you'll hold it, I will man the pressure washer! Seriously, you have to try not to take the oil out of the thing since it is a natural animal skin. (Sorry PETA!)
