How I deal with road rage

This might sound gay as heck, but I GUARANTEE it freakin' works almost every time.

Darn near any time someone is mad and is driving like an idiot, and my normal driving 'slows' them down and they try to yell at me through the window, I'll pick some random reaction that NO ONE would expect.

F'rinstance, some good 'ol boys pulled up alongside me in a lifted Chevy and started calling me names.

I just sat there and barked like a seal - ARF ARF ARF. After about 4 seconds, they all looked @ me like I was an idiot (which I couldn't blame them for) and left. They were confused as heck, and I was laughing my butt off because of the looks on their faces.

The time before that, it was one of those real hot days; everyone's windows were down. The guy acted like a jerk, so when he pulled alongside of me, I rolled my windows down and yelled real loud "HEY! So-and-so told me you were going to be the one bringing the 55-gallon drum of lube to the Buttplugger's Big Bash down by the river at midnight. Can you bring your @$$less chaps too?" (Or something like that.)

The guy actually ran the red light to get away. I had to pull over because I was laughing so hard, I couldn't see for all the tears.

Your right, sounds GAY as heck!

I try not to let it effect me and laugh it off as much as I can. Try to think about how crappy that persons life must be if they're getting so mad. Works sometimes and sometimes not. For example:

Recently I was leaving my local park (which includes a huge dog park that I always take my mutt too) and a guy comes flying up behind be doing probably 40. It's a big park with two main entrances, so people are always using it to cut through to save time. I hate that because there's always families walking around, people on their bikes, pets etc etc. It's the last place you need to be racing around. Well, he ends up riding RIGHT up my arse. Also hate that so I hit my brakes. What does he do? Comes right back up even closer. Literally within a few feet. So, I hit the brakes again and throw it into park. He immediately gets out of the car and runs up to my window. I ended up shoving him through my window and he got all defensive. He started yelling at me that he was in a rush and that I needed to move my car. I just kept telling him that it was a park and that if he was in a rush that he needed to take a different route. This wend back and forth for more than it needed too. He kept saying "just move your f'in car" and I kept telling him that all he needed to do was to tell me he was going to stop driving like a jacka$$ through a park. Didn't get anywhere. Finally I moved because other cars had come up and I didn't want to get them involved.

The guy ended up passing me while still inside the park and then proceeded to drive like a jackass around me until we parted ways. Man, I wanted to punch him in the face SO bad. I think what really steams me up too is that he most likely went to his friends sometime that day and vented on how much of an ahole I was.

You must be a calm person. Some slut came up to my window once after I was driving down the road and she pulled directly in front of me. I held down the horn. She got out of the car and tried ton confront me at the light we both came to. Instead of losing it on her and beating her to death with a maglite I told her to go back to her car and rolled up the window. If someone was shoving me that'd push me over the edge.

Road rage is no joke! A buddy of ours was murdered by an off-duty police officer in Dallas a few years ago. He was cut off by someone and the guy decided to be a jerk, so he followed him into a church parking lot. An off-duty cop (not in uniform) came up and started to intervene. Our friend showed his pistol and the cop shot him dead! No charges were filed against the officer.

Probably more to this story. Like the part where te cop said he was a cop. But if not, and this is the whole story, that is terrible.

Everytime I am driving and get behind someone who is driving like an ass, I realize they are probably so dumb that they don't even know. You can't hold being slow against someone in that kind of situation.

if people could figure this out road rage would be reduced 90%

Seriously, if you've never clicked off O/D in front of a tailgater you are missing out on big fun! Clicking off O/D > brake check, all day!

E-brake works well, too (no brake lights--heehee). A quick yank then right back off wakes 'em right up!

Man, I wish they WOULD put up signs like this! Of course, with this being I-own-this-lane America, once they put up the signs, you'd see entire lines of cars in the passing lane just for spite. At least in Europe people actually move over if you flick your high beams behind someone--here they just flip you off and slow down.

Up in New Hampshire on the two lane highways, you get pulled over for driving in the passing lane when you aren't actually passing someone. The Staties up there don't mess around.

As far as people not moving over while they're driving 65 in the left lane, I've absolutely lost it a few times! Swerve two lanes over, floor it, make my magnaflow scream, and leave those annoying ****ers behind

Haha I said the same thing! It's off the 4Runner-charts!

I still had about 500 rpm before red line, but my brush guard shakes and vibrates(terrible design by Westin. They really dropped the ball), so I backed off. I might go to redline when it isn't so windy in the next few months.... I might go to an open race night at my local drag strip.... Or I'll be a smart 17/18 year old and not push my luck.... :lookout:

Metallica+bad drivers= discovering our trucks can go over 110 mph. I believe I'm a pioneer in 4Runner land speed records haha!

Road Rage

I drive about 100,000 miles a year -- 75k in big, commercial trucks (10-wheel straight trucks & 18-wheel semis) and about 25k in my personal vehicles. I suffer from 'road rage' almost daily. I get really hacked off at stupid & inconsiderate drivers, but the difference is that I don't act on it, force someone off the road or try to harm them in any way. It's just not worth it.

The two most egregious offenses are as follows:

Failure to use directional signals. There is NO EXCUSE for this; none at all. It is a sign of sheer laziness and proof positive that you must think every other driver is clairvoyant. Not using your blinker around big rigs on multi-lane highways puts you one step closer to organ donation.
:roadkill:

Driving in the wrong lane.
If you are on a multi-lane highway and are not overtaking another vehicle or merging on/off the highway, then STAY TO THE RIGHT! This is the law in many states, although it is largely unenforced. Drive, signal your intent, move over to the left lane, pass a slower vehicle and then MOVE BACK OVER to the right. It isn't rocket science!

A simple rule to remember is that if you are being passed on the right, then you are driving in the wrong lane. This is an age-old concept we used to know as "common sense" or merely the rules of the road. Somehow or another, common sense died a slow and agonizing death with his brother common courtesy and their cousin, common sense.
:smashputer:

Those signs that say "SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT" are there for a very good reason.
..........................................

As for trying to exacerbate a road rage incident, it just isn't worth it. I have a carry permit and tend to be even "friendlier" to other drivers during times I am armed. You never, ever want to escalate things - ever. If the only thing hurt is your pride, then you are okay. You may go home teed off or angry, but at least you (and the tool who started it) go home in one piece and live to drive another day.

Usually, the most I might give is the "You are #1" gesture.....and I must really be crazy mad to do that; or perhaps a dirty look in their direction. My most common action is to slowly shake my head "no" as if to indicate to the other person that I can't believe they were so stupid. Flashing my blinkers left & right in succession is a "sign" to the idiots who fail to signal their intent (most of the drivers in our state, unfortunately) when we have a "near miss" situation.

I was in Germany as a kid back in the 1970s and have been back twice to visit. Now THEY know how to drive!! Too bad our society has been dumbed down so severely; and I doubt we will ever recover from it.

I prefer the good old middle finger accompanied by a very drawn out and mouthed out "Go **** yourself."

At night, people riding my ass get the brake job specials. Usual that leads to high beams which i deter by pointing my rear view perfectly to glare back into their eyes. It works everytime try it! Though, most people around here are college kids who have no issues with tossing full trash bags full of **** on our lawns.

I actually was the victim of a mcdonalds bag full with diapers thrown backward out of a car and hitting my windshield. I sped up in front of them on a two way road and they followed me up to my dads house, which they then proceeded to drive up my dads driveway and confront me. My father was out working on a plow and heard the yelling. He confronted them both and come to find out one of the boys was my dads best friends sons. We both read them the riot act and his father made him knock on our door and apologize to both of us lol. Sweet victory.

I love this story mainly because i remember my dad looking over the plow and i heard him say " On my property? Oh your fair game now boys!"

explain how this part is done please.

What frustrates me the most is that the vast majority of all things discussed here are people who are just in their own worlds and who aren't thinking about their surroundings or the people within them. It happens everywhere. If people just took the time and thought, "what would I like in that situation" the word would be a far different place. It's not like people get in their cars and think, "I'm gonna get in the passing lane and just stop up traffic."

These days I almost go out of my way to be nice to people (ie take their carts back if I'm on my way into the store, etc etc). Hopefully it will rub off.

Too many people. Too many strangers. We're losing that direct human interaction which seems key to common courtesy.

I learned it from my sisters boyfriend who has a lowered WRX and OFTEN gets his ass rode(gay?) and high beamed. I used my high beams on him once and he somehow knew exactly when the light hit my eyes. I asked him about it.

The 4runner is easy, roll down the back window, tap the brake lights or hold a few times to get a feel of where their face is. Play with the rear view while glancing back in your drivers mirror to see when that portion of the shield is lit up . You tend to know because all of a sudden the car fades away for a minute lol.

Agreed, it irritates me to the bone when i watch my friends and sister take the time and struggle to explain (ie. Directions somewhere) through text message rather than just pick up the phone and call. I ask them why they wont just call, they respond; "I dont feel like talking to them?"
