How Do You Roll?

After reading Sp8ball's thread guessing if people are on this site (great thread by the way) it got me to thinking how many people on here do lots of mods vs those that keep it stock.

My impression was most of the people on here are doing lots of mods, but after reading Sp8balls threads it sounds like many of you keep it stock or close to it.

I know this is a 5th gen thread but I think your question applies to all gens. I think the answer however probably depends heavily on how old or which gen T4R you have. I would guess those of us with older gen models, such as myself, are a lot more willing to mod our rigs. Especially considering the amount of good information and ideas already available for some of the previous gens.

I personally started out knowing I wanted to make my 3rd gen specific to some of things I wanted and bought it to accomplish. That said, my list of mods has become a rolling list the more and more I stumble on other member's idea and write-ups that take the guess work out of some things.

I say, "Make it yours; these things run forever!"

I have no mods yet, but I want to replace horn (hopefully Sp8ball will get to it and I could use his nice manual I have OEM running board and no chrome though, but it came from the factory. I wouldn't mind to lift truck a little bit if I find reliable mechanic for that, but not in the near future.

My intent with this thread was more specific to 5th gens. I am curious to know how many buy a new car and immediately make a lot of changes. If you move it, please allow more options in the poll for each generation. I believe Mellow77 is right, the older generations are going to have a higher percentage of mods. It would be interesting to see how each generation breaks out.

My intent when purchasing it was always to make major modifications. New rack, sliders, electrical, tires, lift/suspension, interior adjustments, on-board air, etc. Keeping it stock wasn't even considered, else we might have chosen a Limited or gone with something else entirely.

Same here, when I bought it I knew a lift and wheels/tires would be on before I hit 1k miles. I can't keep a vehicle stock, just because I have to drive a one of a kind car. Even if someone on the forums truck looks exactly like mine I don't like it, must be 100% one of a kind. (100% MINE)

I bought a Limited and dropped it of with demello for a new winch bumper and sliders before I even got the suspension and all the rest of the mods put on. The vehicle only had 800 miles on it when I chopped the plastic for the armor. I will have a rear tire carrier and roof rack for the rtt very soon. And yes the paint is scratched up on both sides from top to bottom from the trail, but hey DATS HOW I ROLL!!

I bought mine the last day of January 2010. The next day I installed footwell lights - had lots of the dash apart and moved some switches around. I will probably fool around with mods until the day I sell it!

I might also add it depends on if the owner purchased or leased thier vehicle. Leased owners are more likely to keep it stock. Just something to ponder...

If I do manage to swing a 4Runner, it will not be stock for long. i'll be driving the car for at least 5 years, might as well get it to the point that I enjoy, no?

I can't bring myself to modify something still under warranty. Why risk it? Besides, I can't fathom any way that a 4Runner can be considered fun to drive no matter how it's modified.

I do like to tinker. In the last year we've poured $2500+ of goodies into a $1500 Miata, turning my own wrenches. But doing anything to the 4Runner, which we got to be a Miata-towing appliance, does not appeal to me at all.

When I first saw the 5th gens - and made the decision that I was going to get one - I had no intention of modding my new 4Runner. Then I found this forum during the 18 months of research/waiting/"life" that occurred between my decision to buy and actually pulling the trigger.

Now I have a build thread... (even though it's kinda weak compared to the other trucks who have build threads)

Nothing I've done has voided any warranties, though. Not even a top plate spacer install will do that, as far as I know.

Best part about Toyotas? You won't need the warranty anyway!

We just bought my wife a new Toyota Venza last week and we just put new fog light bulbs headlight bulbs/ Husky weather beaters and we are about to have it tinted next week and hopefully our TSW wheels will be here to. In the words of my wife I can never leave well enough alone lol

I feel I fit all 3... I have done a lot of performance and exterior stuff, and a lot of OEM swapping stuff, and it still looks rather stock.

my truck is "some mods" right now, but, i do plan on getting new tires and wheels in the next year. And hopefully a slight lift, so, i guess lots of mods in a year from now.
