How does heated seats button work

I had always been pushing up on my heated seats button and a red led would come on the button, and seat would warm up. The other day I pushed down on it and noticed a green led came on the button. It is a cloth seat and I do not think it was cooling the seat, but still playing around with it. I went to look it up in the manual, and for whatever reason my manual showed different buttons/settings for heated seats and did not explain the difference. I am still playing around with it, but if anyone knows please advise.

I'm thinking you have aftermarket heated seats... The OEMs use a little roller wheel and amber indicator light. Post a pic of your switch.

Cloth seat? With the trail '16 I had to get the Premium package which included leather seats to geta seat heater? I think folks are right that's aftermarket.
 
But, if after market - it should have come with some kind of documentation to cover operation, what fuse was used, where it is, etc. If you can't find anything, go back to the dealer and ask. Failing that, look around the seat edges for a tag, ID plate, something.

Cloth can have heated seats. My '13 GMC Terrain SLE2 has cloth and it has factory heated seats.
 
My guess is aftermarket

The previous owner only had it one year, but he did buy the alarm from the toyota dealer, etc. and the pictures do not match what is in the manual so it was throwing me off. They are cloth and they do work great, but thanks for the advice about the difference in the buttons just being the power going to the seat. The weird thing is that both buttons are in their own spot on each side of the middle console between the seats so unless that was something there, they dealer cut in perfect places for the buttons, etc.

It would have come from the factory with flat plugs that cover the holes. Pop them ou and put switches in. No need for cutting.
 
anything is possible lol. my limited has heated and cooled seats. the controls are in the lower part of the center stack. it does sound like you have aftermarket heaters to me though.
