SE V6, 2WD. I have now gone 13,044 miles since April when I bought it. I kept fuel log religeously. It has consumed 762.314 gallons for an average of 17.11 MPG. I really expected a bit better. I must admit that I do drive pretty hard. Worst tank was 13.94 towing a 4200# boat and trailer from Atlanta to Lake Oconee. Best tank was the second one when I got 20.12. That is the only time I have broken the 20 MPG barrier. That is probably my biggest dissappointment. IS this about what you get with 6 cylinder and 2WD? Should I be concerned that something is wrong?

I also keep track of all my fuel costs for my 2006 V6 2WD. I have averaged 19 mpg on my daily drive to and from work since I bought my truck in April. My daily drive consists of back roads and no freeway driving. I don't drive fast and I rarely push it hard. On my daily drive I rarely get above 2k rpm's. I try to be careful and drive very conservatively since fuel costs are significant.
On recent trips to Nashville, Cincinnati and Kansas I average 22-23 mpg when driving 70-75 on the interstate. I did not pull a trailer on any of these trips. I did have one tank on the trip to Kansas where I averaged 19mpg, but there were a cross winds blowing at the time.

Over the first 30 tanks of gas I'm at 21.5mpg, and I am thrilled! The Expedition I had before the 4Runner was at 12.3mpg at the 30th tank! :bigok:
I do about a 50/50 split highway vs. in town, and haven't towed a trailer with it yet.

See my sig for my MPG spreadsheet. I think it is pretty dead on especially with the driving that I do. I do lots of stop and go driving in traffic since I commute through the DC Metro area and it seems pretty consistent.
I have a few questions in response
Pickerdd - what part of Atlanta do you live in and work in? Since Im in roswell and drive (for work) all over town it kind of helps me compare. While I'm envious of your mileage; i can honestly tell you i am rarely under 2000 RPMs and that is probably where a great deal of the difference is. Shame on me!
POS - Are you what I would call a supereasy driver like picker, average or a hard driver?
Sharp - I guess since my mileage is pretty much like yours, it will stay that way. Only real difference I notice on your spreadsheet is that yours is 4WD but you don;t use it much. Yo do have some much lower lows than me (11 - wow).
Should I assume there is nothing wrong with my T4R?

I live out in the West Cobb area of Marietta and work 1 block from Lenox mall. I do a fair amount of driving around the Buckhead area at lunch time. It's 18 miles each way to and from work.
I definitely changed my driving habits when I bought the 4Runner. I used to be a very aggressive driver when I drove my old Honda. With the 4Runner I can let it do the work and keep it reasonable speeds and not be in a hurry. Of course, that doesn't apply when driving on our Atlanta freeways!

Yup, the 4WD will always have less mileage because I am carrying around the weight of the 4WD components all the time regardless of if I'm using 4WD. That extra weight is going to make a difference when you are doing stop/go driving. You should be getting 1 or 2 MPG better but if you like to drive it hard then it explains while you're getting slightly worse.

I'm at 55160 miles on my 2003 SR5 V6 2WD and averaging 21.27 mpg overall using a total of 2592.166 gallons. Lowest was 15.40 and highest was 25.56.
I'd say you're getting decent mileage. My mileage is based on driving about 60mph on my commute everyday (100 miles round trip). My uncle, who has an 05 V6 2WD is only getting 15mpg driving around town.

Ive only been through 8 tanks so far, but I have been calculating every one. I average 20.4 mpg combined city/hwy. I commute about 60 mi per day with some fairly heavy traffic in the tunnel areas. Im moving to a closer area with no traffic so Im excited to see some improvement! Honestly though, if I knew it wa going to be this low I would have gotten a V8. I figured Id get better than EPA and pull at least 24. I do like where the oil filter is though

You think averaging 20.4 for combined city & highway in heavy traffic is low? I think that's pretty good. Some with a V8 have only averaged 15.
I don't know what made you think you'd get 24....my wife's little CRV only averages 22.5. We only hit 24 in the CRV a couple of times with all highway driving.

I've also noticed mine gets better gas mileage on the freeway if I don't use the cruise.
I go with supereasy. Don't really push it much in town and 75-80 is my normal cruising speed.

T4R mileage
Mine is a 2006 V6 2WD SE with just over 3500 miles. Since I work from home so there isn't any commuting for me. Easy drivingdriving around town, seldom above 2000 RPM for errands and such gets 17-18 MPG and on the highway I consistently get 21 or a little better at 70-75-80

Combined City and Highway, my 2004 V6 is always between 20 and 25 mpg on the vehicles computer. Highway only is around 25 mpg. Current tank of gas has 1/3 remaining and the average is 23.9 mpg after this weeks comute to work in busy highway traffic. I usually take it easy on the road, with a radar detector, so the speed is on the high side.
Pulling our 20 foot center console drops the milage into the 13-14 mpg range.
Driving 75 -80 long distance on the highway with a kangaroo bag on the roof and bikes on the back runs 18-20 mpg.
I checked the odometer against GPS last week and was suprised to find my stock 265/65R17's are taking me 2.1% farther and faster than the 4Runner thinks, so all of the milage numbers above need to increase by 2%.
I should check the computer's mpg output since I've never done that. Anybody else?

Got my '06 last March
I am at about 11,500 mi.
I average about 17.2 MPG
Just about what I expected at this point. If I can keep the mileage below 16,000 by the end of the first year I'll be happy. Now that I'm back at school I don't commute to work every day...filling up the gas tank once every two weeks at 1.89 is G-R-E-A-T.
