How Fast is it Safe To Go in My 4Runner?

Here is how fast I was driving 3 weeks ago on this road trying to avoid the softball sized bombs coming out of this mothership. This is 4th gear. Imagine how fast this could go if it were not limited in 5th. 130+ not out of the question. For the record, this tornado warned storm was ON ME and I had to GET if you know what I mean. Which is why I was flying. But I did not see another soul on this road.

For the record, were you just playing out in the storm seeing how close you can come with death, or were you actually collecting data. I'm starting to lean towards the former.

Everyone on here that seems to think that if you are a good driver, you should be able to drive fast in any kind of vehicle. I'm sorry, but speed limits are there for a reason. There are so many other factors and unknowns when driving, that the posted speed limits are there to give you a small chance of actually reacting if something occurs.

I've been in public safety for 18 years. I've been on the scene of more crashes than many of you had while playing Xbox. Crashes affect more than just one driver. They usually affect innocent people, some even good drivers, and also public safety personnel. When someone gets brutally killed or hurt at a crash scene, do you think it doesn't affect everyone else at the scene?

One person's irresponsibility can affect many people for a long time. Think about that next time you decide to drive faster than your conscious says is safe. Like the OP.

Unfortunately in my area, the majority of crashes, piles ups, and traffic are caused by idiots going below or barely at the speed limit as they attempt to force an entire freeway to match their speed. Or they brake going up hill... or they're so engrossed on their cellphone-tablet-laptop-video-ma-trons they can't be bothered to do things like signal, or operate the vehicle like their supposedly licensed to or understand concepts like "right of way" and "just because I want to change lanes doesn't mean the entire world is going to just move out of the way for you (also known as physics, you know that whole two things cannot occupy the same space dealio.) There should be an IQ test for operating a vehicle... or perhaps living in general, Darwin's theory of evolution is too slow for my tastes. :bounce:

greetings to my US bros

We in Europe (Germany a.o.) tend to drive much faster then then the average US Joe, but the last traffic stats I saw did not show any significant higher no. of traffic deaths in Germany then then in the US.

So its all about road conditions, a properly maintained and equipped 4R and - most importantly - the driver's skills!

As to reality: I drive regularly a 800 mile trip across 4 countries in Europe (Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Czech Rep.) and at good conditions am keeping a constant 100-110 on the Serbian freeway. (It hurts my bank account though with fuel economy dropping to 12-13!)

ALWAYS check that you have the correct air pressure! On large SUV tires a bit higher pressure does not harm, but too low pressure can give you serious trouble.

Drive fast but always defensive! A large SUV is not a sleek motorbike or sports car - it is not fit for abrupt maneuvers!
