How High is High Enough....

When it comes to a raised vehicle?????

I asked myself that question yesterday when I parked next to a new, raised, Dodge Ram Pickup at the food store.
The top of the bumper on the Ram lined up perfectly with the bottom of the window on my liftgate.
If something of that height hit my 4Runner it would do some serious damage at just about any angle.
It is hard to imagine what kind of damage a raised vehicle like this would cause to a car not nearly as tall as a 4Runner.

What makes someone raise their vehicle that high and drive it on public roads? Are they compensating for other short-comings or something?

Maybe they were just taking it out for a spin, no problems with that. I doubt it is their daily driver. It may be a bit excessive i agree, but maybe thats just what they are into. I definitely would agree with you on the fact that if it was seriously endangering others on the road, that it would be too high.

Some states and municipalities have laws that govern how low and how high a vehicle should be. Southern Maryland cops pull over and ticket lifted pickup trucks.

No question enthusiasts like to enjoy their vehicles and should be able to do so as long as that enjoyment does not pose a serious safety hazard to the public.

Having a raised Dodge Ram in a crowded food store parking lot on a Saturday morning with adult and child pedestrians is a disaster waiting to happen.

I have to wonder if the insurance company that insures this vehicle knows about the modifications that have been done to it?
Surely these mods increase the risk of an accident and bodily injury MUCH MORE than a stock truck would.

I thought I read something where states or maybe the Fed were looking at limits as to how high a vehicle can be lifted that uses public roads/highways.
I think if that Dodge Ram or any truck has a bumper that is as high as the bottom of the rear window on a 4runner, thats a concern.
Just think if you got broadsided by something like that. You wouldn't have a prayer.
I just want to lift mine a mere 3".

In MD the law is a max of 28" from the bottom of the stock rear bumper or frame if the bumper isn't stock. Been there, mines leagal, but the non-stock rear bumper and tires past the fenders is a different story, but the State Troooper wasn't worried about that once if found I was legal.

As far as what's too high and still usefull and/or driveable, that varies a lot.
