How is the '08 OEM Nav system?

I'm shopping for a new '08 sport next week. I can get one with the factory nav for $2k more than a standard sport. Is it worth it?

I could do the Kenwood 8120 touch screen nav, which has blue tooth, then add the backup camera, add xm satellite and ipod wire. Cost will be over $2k for all of that.

I'm going to be traveling a lot in the next 5 months with just my basic tools- so a full install is going to be tough.

So- how good is the factory system? Is it touch screen? Can I add xm radio to it?

I bought a 2008 Limited with the e7008 Nav with bluetooth and backup camera. The screen is touchscreen. Some folks have reported that the Eclipse nav units, which is made by the same company, but with more features.

You might want to make a list of the features you want from the nav unit then decide if the Toyota unit fits your needs.

Oh, and yes you can hook up XM to the unit as well as one of the iPod interfaces.

All in all, I really like the E7008 Nav unit in my truck.

:iagree: with everything pickerdd said. Additionally, the OEM one will be less prone to theft. However an aftermarket nav will allow you to watch DVDs on it. In order to do that with the OEM nav, you will also need to have the RSES (Rear Seat Entertainment System).

I went OEM because I don't feel like hacking and cutting up my hatch to install a backup camera.

I just found out the maps don't cover Hawaii- where I'll be taking the truck. Nevermind. That saves me $2000.

That is incorrect. The Hawaiian Islands are included in the coverage area in the e7008 v7.1 Navigation DVD in my truck. I just verified this in my unit.

You can usually find the 8120 with those features for a lot less online. I got mine with from an authorized dealer, with xm & ipod for around $1300 and I think the back up camera runs 100-150$.

I don't know much about the factory nav, so I can't help you there.
