How is the T4R's A/C?

Im in Atlanta and I think it works great. As for sapping power, it doesn't on my v6. Besides, I think most cars now have switch that if you floor the gas (passing) it will momentarily kill the compressor. As fo the controls, they aren't cumbersome at all IMO. Simply set it where you want and leave it there. I have had my T4R for almost a year and probably havent adjusted the AC 20 times.

The controls took a day for me to get used to but now they're second nature. The A/C is still nice and cold even after 3 years of ownership. I don't really notice the A/C is on but the V6 is pretty powerful. I remember in my 4cylinder Celica I had to give it more gas when starting or it'd feel like it was going to stall. Not a problem in the 4Runner.
Some folks have complained that the truck "jerks" when the compressor turns on when you are stopped and have your foot on the brake pedal. That's how powerful the engines are if you ask me...

Agreed that there's plenty of engine power to compensate for the load of the compressor.
As far as cooling effect, I'd say that it does a decent job of cooling the interior in a reasonable amount of time in the summer. It's a pretty big interior space, so it depends what you're comparing to in order to gauge performance. For example, my 2-door extended cab Tacoma cools off very quickly. But it's relative, as the Taco probably has 1/3 the interior space of the 4Runner.
The controls are odd-looking at first, but if you're used to using auto climate control then you'll never touch them. If you're not used to climate control, then you'll be annoyed by the change from an analog temperature knob to an up/down rocker switch that moves one degree at a time. Learn to "set it and forget it", and you'll be satisfied with it in most situations.

I have a limited, with climate control, so I don't know how well my experience transfers to other models. I set my temp at 70 in the winter and 75 in the summer and leave everything else up to the climate control. With few exceptions this works well and I can set it and forget it.
Occasionally I'll have to tweak the temp up or down a degree or so, but generally it's on auto pilot.

But if that is the biggest complaint about my 4Runner, I should consider the vehicle a blessing. Everything works as it should, it hauls a$$ when necessary and can go just about anywhere and still look good. The worst part is that the 4.0L engine never met a gas station it didn't like.

I'm glad I did not get the V8 when it costs more than fifty bucks to fill it. Yeah, I know the V8 only uses a little bit more fuel, but keep in mind that my other car is a friggin' Sentra with a 1.8-liter engine; so I am used to better mileage.
