How Late Can 4Runner Be Factory Ordered

I want to order an 06 4Runner Limited V8 with Nav, Rear Air Suspension, X-REAS, Side Air Bags, Moonroof, DRL's, Rear Spoiler, and a few other dealer installed options. The reason I want to order it is because I'm pretty sure I won't get the exact options I want in the exact color I want off a dealer's lot. I also want to put more money down by using the money I get back from Uncle Sam on my 05 taxes. Does anyone know the cutoff date on factory orders for 06 Runners?

I ordered my 06 T4R for the exact same reasons you want to. I wanted the exact options I wanted and I get my bonus from work & Uncle Sam next month. It will take about 3-4 months to get the truck after you order it. Just make sure they actually order it (read my thread & you will understand).

I don't think there is a cutoff on when you can special order a new 06, but I would not wait until August or September as they would probably tell you to wait for the 07 model.

Let me know if you have any questions about the process.

I have an '06 on order. The dealer told me that it would be 4-5 months. I certainly hope he's being pessimistic, but don't be too confident in getting something in less than 4 months.

US manufacturers have a date on which they stop manufacturing one model year. There is then usually a break while they change over the line for the next model year--possibly short if there are no major changes. Import makers don't seem to make these dates public, but your dealer may still be able to give you a cut-off order date as the time nears. Unfortunately, Toyota seems especially mysterious on special order information.

Good luck with your special order, Stickman (and LSUMBA). I've been told that Toyota raises their prices several times a year, so with a special order, you may have to pay the extra $$.....has anyone had any experience with this?

My price is fixed & was negotiated before the order was placed. I am not fearful of the price goign up as much as I am of the order being "lost" (again).

When we bought our 1990 Toyota truck, the dealer said Japan stops building the current year in April and starts building next year's models. I'm not sure how much this has changed with more efficient production of today, but I would guess April or May. If a special order placed today takes about three months to build and another month to ship, April and May seems about right as it puts the next year's models on the lots by August and September.

FWIW, NUMMI, the plant that builds Corollas, Vibes and Tacomas are six months ahead of current year according to my friend's uncle who's in QA. By June, they're building next year's models. However, my 8/05 build date Taco was still a 2005. I ordered it in July and took delivery in August. Maybe because due to popular demand Toyota decided to produce more '05s and it allows them to make the '04 vs. '05 sales increases look higher. Some what similar to the logic behind why the Solara is referred to as the Camry Solara, so every Solara sold is also counted as a Camry sale.
