How long do OEM Tokico front shocks last ?

Front shocks and springs are very rusted with peeling paint but they pass the bounce test ! I'm thinking they are needing to be replaced, but have no idea how old they are. The top plastic cover is also broken and cracked, just from looking at them I would guess they have at least 50k Km's on them. They are OEM Tokico's. How long do the original equipment ones last for ?

My all-original '97 springs and shocks are still functional. The springs, like all springs, have sagged a bit over the years. The shocks seem to control the ride just fine.

I've considered refreshing the suspension with new springs and shocks, but haven't decided what to do, yet.

In theory your shocks are probably ok so long as they arent leaking. When I changed my front struts assembly at 160,000 miles, I was surprised that the ride was only minimally improved, the original struts werent that bad. I still have them in my garage just in case.

I pulled mine off at 234k (miles) and I'm 95% sure were original. They were a bit worn, but they functioned just fine. I still have em if you want em. The bodies on the rears are a little torn up from having to use some slip joint pliers to get them off, but the fronts are fine. I mean, if you're going through the work to get the fronts swapped, you might as well use new shocks, but I need to clean out my shop, so...

There's no real way to know how long shocks will last because of different driving conditions.

Well 234K miles is right where I am this week ! I had to replace rear springs and shocks this year due to badly sagging old ones. The fronts then are maybe still fine. As I say they still seem to be OK, They look real bad though, the mechanic who does work on my 4RNR says they are still good ! Guess I'll stop looking at them !! Was thinking to get the Bilstein 4600 front shocks and use the original springs. Might still do that.

The 96' I have had since new is still sitting on original shocks and pre-recall springs with 120k. No noticeable sag and the shocks still work with no noticed leaks.

The other 96' I just purchased on the other hand is sitting on original shocks and front springs with the rear springs being replaced about seven years and 40k ago under the recall. No noticeable sag front and back, it sits damn near level. The shocks are totally done, though. The truck has 198k on it in total.

THEY LAST FOREVER, BECAUSE THEY ARE OEM AND TOYOTA. lol, just joking. As long as they give you a good ride, they are working.

So can someone verify whether shocks stiffen up or go soggy when they are at the end of their life ? I'm scratching my head as mine are rusted to hell and back with paint peeling etc. They do seem to be a little harsh however and notice the front end will skip on a long fast corner if the surface is uneven !

Stumbled across this thread trying to figure out my front suspension. It feels terribly stiff and jarring, which is odd since the previous owner provided records showing that the front shocks were replaced with part number 48510-39436 only 5 years and 16k miles ago.

I just crawled underneath and saw that the front shocks are Tokico and show part number 48510-35080, which partsouq shows is a $43 part. The maintenance records show that the previous owner paid $230 each for 48510-39436!

Did he get screwed with an inferior part? Is it possible that the Tokico shocks put on 5 years ago would be shot after only 16k miles, almost all of it on paved roads?

All four are Bridgestone Dueler H/T 265/70R16. Front driver is at 32 psi, front passenger is at 36 psi.
