How long does it take for 4x4 to engage?

Is anyone else having trouble with a hesitant or slow actuator when they engage 4wd? On our 08 4 runner it can take 30 sec at the fastest to over 120 seconds to engage. I feel like that is too long.

Can members give me an idea of how long it take to go into 4hi with their rigs?

Shouldn't take more than 30 to 45 sec. Max. It works best if your moving but with no power, at a roll.

seems like for the most time when we engage 4hi it takes wayyy more then 60secs. and sometimes it just never goes in the lights just blink away on the dash.

Trouble is that it doesn't happen with such a delay all the time and of course works at an exceptable level when we take it to the dealer.

its kind of a pain when you need it and the light is just blinking away. the slow to engage doesn't seem to be effected via speed, speeding up, braking, coasting ect. tried all the combinations

How often do you use 4WD? If you exercise the actuator often it will switch faster. Mine takes about 2-4 seconds on average to engage but then I switch between 2Hi, 4Hi, 4Lo, locked/unlocked all the time to keep things in working order.

I guess we don't use the 4wd that often, which is prob. pretty typical of most folks. Have a 3/4 ton chevy truck that we use for plowing and run more in the winter. This has been a big snow winter for us, so we are using it more and more. Would love to have our 4wd engage in 2-4 sec. like yours. It really sucks when your trying to put it in to say go up the hill to the ski mt or into the unplowed drive and you have to start planning mile or so in advance.

The manual says to engage the system once a month for 10 miles to keep it lubricated. If you start engaging it once a day for even 2 miles in about 2-3 weeks it should loosen up. Mine gets real sluggish if I don't engage it every 2-3 weeks in the Summer. 4lo should be engaged as well as the 4x4 torson locker.
