How long does it take to change a rear axle seal?

I've read the threads, picked up the parts. But i dont have a whole bunch of time. so for anyone who has changed the Seals, i am just doing the seals, hoping that the bearings are fine, if they arent fine im just gonna snag an axle out of the junkyard, looks to be cheaper than getting the bearings pressed on and off and all that jazz. just lookin for a time estimate is all, gonna clean the breather out too.

Side 1 will take 45 minutes, side 2 will take 20. Also may want to bleed the rear brake lines if you're not careful with capping them off when you remove the drum/axle assembly...

And if you're not having issues with the 3rd member, I would think having the bearings replaced would be easier and more cost efficient than going to the junkyard and swapping in an axle with no maintenance history. Just my opinion.

I agree. I am leaving on a trip in a couple of days and noticed a leaking seal the other night, I arranged to take my truck to my mechanic--- he charged me 2.5 hrs to replace the seals, brake shoes and bleeding as well as replacing the front dif oil. My bearings were fine.

i can tell you later today haha, i got my drivers seal replaced on saturday at a firestone dealer, and while washing the truck i noticed it was leaking again, so i sit here waiting for them to finish (dropped it off at 7:30). then headed south for the week!

Yeah, these things seem a bit tricky if you don't do them exactly right (seems like poor design to me...)
