How long have you gone without replacing your timing belt?

Wow, some real chance takers here. Never let a belt go over 100k.

$1000 belt change or $45,000+ new 4Runner. I'll swap the belt.

If you have the owner's service manual you'll see it's a 90,000 mile service. If your belt breaks you'll have a very large paperweight because the V8 is an interference engine, meaning the valves extend into the cylinder. A belt break means the pistons will be hammering those valves. :-(

I got the car at 180 something thousand miles, and have been struggling for money until recently. Toyota can build a good belt. I cant stress this enough though DONT LET IT GET THIS BAD.
there are major oil leaks from the timing cover and I dont think she's going to live much longer. Glad I'm changing it soon

270k 04 v8

bought it with 268k and no tag or service history of it being done. Worked at Toyota/Lexus dealer at the time. Tech said it was original but didn't look bad. Explained the angles for the routing on the 2uz make them less likely to fail compared to other engines. I had a customer there with 346k on 03 v8 with original belt. Engine failure was caused by his daughter letting a radiator leak go without keeping coolant in it.
