How long is the 4.7L supposed to last?

You believing "me" is irrelevant. Ford published a worldwide recall for all ecoboost engine designs stating that they would fail at 135K 2 years ago due to poor coolant o-rings which would cause all the coolant to boil out of the engine and overheat the rotating assembly.
Also, my fleet ecoboost escape happens to be at Ford right now for that exact problem.

All Ford engines are garbage. Deal with it.

I don't think that means the same as admitting their engines cannot last 135k by design. I think the recall is meant to prevent that. That being said I still have no trust in ecoboost.

I just learned that the Ford Explorer’s motor was designed with the water pump inside the engine. What water pump doesnt fail by 100k. Get a nice water leak in the engine and kaboom. I used to think Ford was the only american vehicle worth buying. I dont think that anymore. All our cars are toyota or lexus.

The majority of my fleet are Lincoln MKSs with the 3.7 N/A motor. As noted the water pump is internal. They are what causes us to dump a motor. BUT the way we maintain our vehicles we get between 300 and 370k before they let go and mix oil and coolant.

We could do them (17 hour job give or take) but we generally upgrade our vehicles before they let go for body style changes. Sometimes we will drop a low mileage motor in just to sell it or drive a little while longer then sell...

Overall I am really impressed with those 3.7s the only majorly issues are the Cat converters are junk and need replacing every 70 to 100k. The 3.5 ecoboost isnt awful either, but the turbos do tend to start leaking some around 125k but I haven't had one fail on me yet. We have one ecoboost with 297k on it.

We do a lot of highway miles, which surely helps. But our drivers also beat on these things especially in the city.

The transmissions on these are AWD ans good for about 220k with 0 fluid changes. 270ish with proper service.

Anyways, I jave been very impressed with that package. My Buddy's brand new f150 is a turd tho. Clunks in ans out of gear... Clunks shifring gears... Only has 10k on it *♂️

205k mi
Not one drip of oil leaked just an annoying exhaust tick

I have about 320,000 on my 2003 V8 Limited. Original owner, survived 2 teenage drivers with 2 more to go, light hobby farming, daily driver. It didn't get much use this year due to the pandemic.
The transfer case/actuator seized on me about 2 years ago. We found a good used one and replaced it. I had the entire back end redone a few years ago and right now I need to have the front control arms and CV stuff done. Probably next month. I'm also going to order new Katzkin replacement covers for the seats and a new carpet from one of these online dealers.
My plan is to keep this car for as long as possible. I love it and I can't imagine driving anything else.

Was your T-case run dry by chance? I bought one with 320K also and the T case had about 0.2L of fluid in it. I'm assuming a leak at the actuator o ring went undetected. Filled it back up and have not had any issues thus far.

Mine did have that leak and Toyota was good about keeping it in check. I didn't think to ask when it was being replaced if it was dry, but I feel like it was not. I stopped having it serviced at Toyota right before that happened.
The car was having issues with the T-case but I didn't know that's what it was. I always thought it was just the break system because it only happened when I was coming to a stop or almost completely stopped. I can only describe it as a weird bump that you could feel and even hear.

Exactly. Dude went all main stream media and made it sound like Ford designed the engines to fail by 135K.

I am officially at 500,100 miles this week. Now to shoot for 1,000,000 miles with original drivetrain. Not sure my transmission will make it that far.

I* have a 07 limited with the 4.7 and have 254k on the clock . half the miles was pulling my 22ft Chapperal and was not easy on it. Timing belts, waterpumps reg maint. stuff is all I have done.A thumbs up to the 4Runner

I'm only at 71k miles on my '05...she's the best vehicle I've owned due to NOTHING going wrong or bad on it...everything is perfectly reliable and strong...loving it despite it's now cramped interior with kids...this will become my kids' first car when they turn of age in 12 years!

These are still kind of new enough to where we won't know how long they'll actually last. I myself have seen several with 250+ and running great and with proper fluid changes and just paying attention to things, 400-500k isn't out of the question. You'll probably run into transmission problems before the engine craps out depending on its history.
