How many are using only real gasoline meaning without any Alcohol added.

I remember when we could not get leaded gasoline, it ended many peoples cars trucks and lawn mowers.

But then we got the Alcohol being mixed with our gasoline, did it put hurt on plastic parts and rubber hoses, and it's reduced heat value gave us less power and less mileage per gallon.

How many today are using real gasoline if it can be found?:

I run a tank of ethanol free every 5 tanks or so... Does it do much to help? Meh.

Do I feel better about giving her some better gas? yup.

Also, there's an app, Pure Gas, that helps you find ethanol-free gas.

That is shocking it's not hard to find here at around $1.80 a gallon.

Worked in an outdoor equipment repair shop in college for a couple of summers, well aware of the problems ethanol causes, especially in small engines..

But the points you made about 25% ethanol are purely speculation and this is not a political forum. We are all bombarded by politics everywhere else, could we please not turn this into a political discussion too?

thats very strange for your location, im in north east iowa & almost every station here has the option for non ethanol. its usually the lowest/cheapest grade 87 has ethanol, then a non ethanol 87 & non ethanol 91. some stations have 89 ethanol & 93 ethanol... all are 10% mix. but every caseys in the state has the non ethanol 87 & 91 option.

as mentioned ethanol has less energy (BTU) so it does get less MPG, my MPG gauge on my 4runner shows a .2-.3 drop in mpg with ethanol vs non ethanol of the same 87 octane. so the computer notices it & im sure if i did manual calculations it would be less too. but the price increase for non ethanol makes it about a wash.

& any current vehicle or small engine things like lawn mowers have ethanol resistant rubber parts, it only causes issues on older (pre ~2000 year) engines. but ethanol doesnt store as well so need to use a stabilizer for winter storage.

In no way am i trying to make this a political forum or is my post political, i am just posting my thoughts about what i think will happen and what it will cause.

I usually fill up with low-grade 87 octane...it's the cheapest and unfortunately, if not specifically stating there is no ethanol in the pumps, they all have it...at least 10%...regardless, with fuel being muuuuch less expensive than previous years, I topped off yesterday with 91 non-ethanol fuel...I will run three tanks through before I would assume I see improvements in anything...started in my SC'd Tundra 2 tanks ago and I instantly saw a 2mpg improvement since using ethanol 91! so I assume my 13MPG in the 4Runner will improve soon-ish too!

The main reason i just use real gasoline with no Alcohol, is because the problems and damage it causes with the fuel system.

Alcohol is a real nasty chemical and it draws water like crazy, it really does a number on the fuel pump and am sure it does not help in keeping the injectors clean.

Friends don't recommend gasoline containing Alcohol to their friends.

I usually saw not only better performance, but 2-3mpg better on average with the Non Ethanol option.

When I traveled to Minnesota for example, and filling up for the first time with their only option of E15, I had a check engine light on the dash for Lean Air/Fuel mixture codes shortly after fill up. Check engine light stayed on my entire trip. When finally returning home and running 1-tank of good Non Ethanol Premium through the light went out on its own.

Most of the times your 10% Ethanol has anywhere on average from 13-14% Ethanol content per the guidelines the fuel is allowed to have.

I also have had that check engine light when years ago i was forced to use 10% Ethano, the light never went out even after using just real gas.

You don't have to be an Engineer to understand the difference in the heat values between Alcohol and Gasoline.

Ethanol 76,000 Btu/Gal. Gasoline 125,000 Btu/Gal.

Pretty simple to understand why you get better mileage from 100% Gasoline then any % less.

I would like to try 100% gasoline for several tankfuls. But I can’t get it in densely populated CA. It probably isn’t worth the additional cost anyway to achieve additional MPG. Assuming ethanol has 33% less energy than gasoline, the blend is 10%, at 20 MPG: 0.33x0.1x20=0.66 MPG less using a 10% ethanol blend.

However, if pure gasoline gives you a noticeable increase in power or performance then I might justify the additional cost.

What an inflammatory response to your own thread. If you want to get down to it the people benefitting from ethanol aren't auto techs (I am one by the way) it's the corn farmers. Funny you didn't mention them in your rant.... becuase it doesn't fit the mold of your agenda.

I was just making a general joke as to why someone would like people using the E15 junk, sure i know our Government is paying for the use of corn and the high cost of converting it for use as a fuel.

Any food item you buy that uses corn like corn flake's at $5,00 a box, tells you that something is pushing the prices up.

But i have never had anyone working on my auto tell me not to use E-15.

I live in the Chicago area, and I went on the website to find ethanol-free, pure gasoline near me (not super hi-octane racing gas).

The closest gas station to me was 3+ hours away!
