How many do not have the under hood insulator?

i thought it was to sort of protect the paint on the hood from the heat... I could be wrong, but regardless, i do not have the insulator on mine.
I don't either but it is good to have. The air coming out of the top part of the radiator is about 88 Celsius and this hot air constantly hitting the underside of the hood all the time and could weaken the metal to pain adhesion.
On the other hand, my FWD corolla got the exhaust manifold next to the radiator and the air blown by the fan hits the exhaust manifold (about 180 Celsius) and it hits directly the hood making real bad cracks in the paint.

This has been brought up before so I'll give my 2 cents worth. In the other thread it was pointed out that its main function is for engine fires. As your engine burns, it will break apart and fall down and try to smother the fire.
Since it's insulation I'm sure it help with heat and sound. But let me say that I had a Celica GT4 years ago and I removed the insulation from the hood. On those engines, the turbo is right on top on the front of the engine, and the intercooler was on top of the engine (so you can guess the amount of heat generated).
No damage was done to the paint. That car was an '88 and we know Toyota uses different paint over the years. But still, if the paint could hold up to that heat, I'm sure we're fine.

Has nothing to do with heat, I've never had one since my hood didn't come with one and my paint is pristine.
Like others said it's primary use is for sound deadening, I believe it's standard for Limited models, at least that I have seen. Seems useful for fire protection as well.
P.S. the throttle cable on mine just rubs on the hood now in the middle of the vacuum diagram, so it might still touch.
