how many gallons

does a 2006 tank hold? We just did mileage on 1st tank 300 miles exactly but she didn't look at gallons filled-

I dont have my manual in front of me but you should easily be able to google that.

Also, it won't be accurate the way you are trying to calculate MPG. Your tank was not totally empty to begin with and it's not totally empty when you finished your 300 miles "trip"
 
I VERY seldomly run it very empty. It is really hard on the fuel pump to run them low, and I can just fill a little early. I run it down almost to the red line, but not quite.

I usually pump 20 gallons on the 23 capacity.

1) "Please" :rtfm:

2) Stop using "Miles to Empty" or whatever that BS onboard nomenclature is. Hand calculate your MPG and compare that to the inaccurate on board value.

3) Be sure to hit "reset" at each fillup to get the best "almost real-time" data from your on-board.
 
Should be a 23 gal tank like all the rest. Mine is V8, 23 gal. Not 100% sure about the V6, but I think it's the same.
I have never worried about running close to empty, I've filled up with 22 gal before, which was pretty much running on fumes! If I'm on the road, I'll hand calculate using very conservative 15 or 16 mpg to see how many miles I "should" be able to drive. I've been as much as 40 miles after showing "0" on the range readout. Not smart unless you know your mpg pretty well, but knock on wood I haven't had any problems yet! I've always heard if you never run below 1/4 tank, there could be some contaminants than settled in the bottom of your tank, but like I said, never a problem for me.
 
300 miles on a tank full seems pretty low. I filled up my V8 4wd 4runner and drove all the way to L.A. . I reached my parents house after 410 miles on the road without filling up, and my low fuel light had not even come on yet.

You rely on your 1st fill-up receipt to figure out how many gallons your tank holds? I think there are meds for that.

This wouldn't be your first car, would it?

Must be down hill all the way, or on a trailer! J/K. But seriously, I've pushed the limits getting 350 miles w/ 0 showing on the range meter. Maybe you are on a two lane road? I could see getting that w/ stock tires and doing 60mph. But if your light had not yet come on, there's another 3 gals, for a total of 450+ miles? You have a rare V8 that's for sure!
 
I filled up the first tank but can't remember how low it was- then my daughter filled it up yesterday and I am not for sure how low it was then either- it's a new car for us so I am just playing around with the mileage-
 
I looked it up and it is in fact a 23 gal tank.
"how low" it is before fill up is not a very good way to tell how large your tank is, next time you feel like you're running on fumes, fill up and see how many galons you had left to reach 23. Once you know your mpg, you'll know how far you can drive on a full tank. Enjoy your new ride!

If you can get the other drivers to do it, log your odometer reading and # of gallons at each fill-up. Then you can easily calculate your mileage. I keep a $3 pocket planner that I get at WalMart in each car and log not only fuel data but any maintenance that I do (everything, including wiper blades, waxing, addition of fuel system cleaner, etc.).

If you're an only child, it's ridicule. If not, it's friendly jabbing.

I have gotten almost 40 miles as well after the meter said 0 miles to go.
 
I'm not sure if the T4R OM discusses it, but typically, the on-board on most cars will give you a reserve of about 2 gallons, sometimes 3, for the sake of conservatism and under the assumption that there are folks out there that will actually run their tanks that low.

I guess you could say there was a lot of down hill driving, but a lot of up hill driving as well. My towns elevation is 4,500 feet while my parents in L.A. are basically at sea level. I do have stock tires, it was a 2 lane road for the most part, and I mostly drove the speed limit of 65. There were a couple of areas that the speed limit was 70.
 
Wow, sure wish I could get 450 miles out of a tank! I am running slightly oversized 6 ply tires, so that drops me down a bit. My max has been about 350, then 1 gal of fuel left when I filled up so I might could have squeezed out 365. Oh, and that's half 60mph and half 75 mph.
 
I just bought a 2005 Limited V8 four-wheel drive as a second vehicle and I have yet to put much over 18 gallons on a 23 gallon tank. 18.1 or .2 is all that it will take with the empty light coming on and the mile tracker to empty close to 5 miles being left. Any ideas on what could be causing this? I do not want to run it empty to check this but I'm getting gas frequently and if there is 5 gallons left that's close to a hundred miles I would have left on that tank. Any advice would be appropriated. I can live with it the way it is and I do not want to take it in to the dealer for some expensive check.
