How many have an external transmission cooler?

exactly on both our 4runners. on our 2005 corolla i installed 70255.
Is an aux tranny cooler necessary in PA? propably not, but for me it's piece of mind... lot of cruise control in PA with mountains for all our vehicles and a bit of towing a small fishing boat as well with my 4runner.
I have a Hayden 677. It was really easy to install, just needed an extra 3/8" coupler. The lines from the kit were sufficient to mount it close to the V8 factor location.
I MIG'd up a bracket for the left side of the core, and used an existing nut to mount it with a piece of bar stock on the right side (it was on the center vertical support of the core support). It makes more sense when you look at the left (driver's) side radiator/condensor opening.
I wouldn't go any larger than the 677 kit, as it just seemed like too much. The temp drop even on a really warm day is noticeable just from putting your hand on the inlet and outlet.
I also kept the factory cooler loop in the radiator.

All V8's with the tow package come with an external trans cooler. I don't think the V6's come with one??? Not sure on that.

Another one here. Since my T4R acts primarily as a tow vehicle I regard it as cheap insurance. When I was coming out of Death Valley in July of last year pulling a 1,000lb teardrop trailer I was certainly glad to have it!
Even with the cooler the Scangauge showed a TFT (Transmission Fluid Temp) of 260 degrees! :scared:
Funny thing, though, the "trans fluid temp" light never came on (according to someone here it's supposed to come on at 239 degrees f.)
Not sure what that means, except maybe the sensor for the light is in a different place than the one that sends info to the vehicle's computer.

idk why it would be that low. the 3rd gens dont come on till like 270*+ id thing the 4th gens would be the same. 240* is really not that high considering. most vehicles actually hit that mark, though they just dont sustain it. its when you start getting close to the 300* mark that things start to become an issue -pressures increase, materials start to breakdown ect. the occasional short jumps/spikes into the 250* range are not really anything to be worried about as long as you do not sustain that temp for long periods of time. obviously the cooler the better and as long as you are over 130* you are fine -rule of thumb is if it shifts into overdrive you are good to go. these transmissions(almost all newer automatics) have a system built into them that wont allow the trans to shit into overdrive if the fluid is too cold. it will hold the shifts until the temps rise to a safe level and then allow the upshift into overdrive.
I brought this up last year when experiencing the same thing. Nobody was able to determine where the ScanGauge measures the temp to know whether or not it reads accurately. I've hit 240 w/o any light so I'm wondering about the validity of the readings.
