The US adopted different ways to measure the HP ratings this year. If you look at the ratings last year or 2 years ago it said 245 hp here in the US too. Its the exact same for you as it is for us just rated different.

I see. I know that there are different ways of measuring the power, I think one is the SAE measure, that Mitsubishi use it. I think in that one, they measure the engine outside of the vehicle in a sort of table, so the resulting HP is going to be higher that the one is going to be in the vehicle, because it has almost no weight.

A bit unfair I think.

Thanks for the response.

Some more info from SAE.org.

Actually, it's a more leveled playing field for all manufacturers to get apples to apples comparisons between each brand. I recall some time ago back Car and Driver tested both a V8 Mustang and Camaro, both of similar displacement, weight and claimed horsepower. However, the two turned in significantly performance times. When C&D contacted the manufacturers, it was learned that Ford had prototype manifolds and not production, and possibly no accessories mounted to the engine when testing its HP ratings.

We have a lot of brands and models of cars available in Chile.

This is the Focus available here:

i thought 4Runners were only sold in Japan and U.S.
Anyways, do they have the Ford Focus there in Chile?

Nope they are sold I believe all over the world. For sure in South America. IIRC, I think a T4ROTM winner is a Central or South America member. In other parts of the world, it's not marketed as a 4Runner though, it's Hi-Lux Surf.

can you help?

I am new to this site so am not sure who I am calling............are you based in Santiago Chile?

We are driving a Hilux twin cab around the world from Europe, via Africa, Middle East, Russia, North America and now in Colombia.

We arrive in Santiago in March and need somewhere to park the Toyota for a while....can you help?
