How many is too many?

I'm looking for my first 4Runner. Somewhere between a 1998 and a 2001. I'm wondering what you guys think about mileage. How many is too many? I know the 4Runners have a great reputation for living long and getting high mileage with no problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'd try to stay at least under 15k miles a year for the year you buy is acceptable but 12k a year would keep the value in check a little better.

If you are actually going to do a little off roading then you should look for a '99-'00 with a rear locker plus all '99s and most of the '00s had taller springs over the other years especially the '01-'02 which was dropped an inch or more. Plus the '99+ got the better headlamps,cupholders were moved to the shifter location from the dash plus you got the extra power outlets (2) up front and one in the hatch area.

I was wondering if the usual mileage rules would apply and you've just confirmed that they do.

Thanks for the tips on the springs and locker. I've noticed that some seem to sit a little higher than others. I would like to do some light off-roading. Nothing too serious though as it will be my daily driver too. I wouldn't want to beat it up.
