How many Maxtrax / Treds / Recovery boards - 2? or 4+?

Really thought these things were for overlanding poser wheeling, like so many gadgets. but in the Sierras last summer we had a few and they many times saved time with stucks by not having to winch. They dont always work, but they can speed up a difficult trail section. Could not imagine needing more then 2, maybe in Alaska or something. Got to buy the good stuff I hear, matraxx or bust.

I very much agree. In the grand scheme, they're actually pretty affordable and they're easy to tote around - toss them on the roof rack and be off.

I don't know the exact specification of the plastics used, but they use a much more flexible nylon to make the maxtrax than whatever is used to make treds (type of PVC?) That is the one and only significant difference in design that truly matters IMHO. I'm not knocking the treds b/c I've never used them, but I've seen plenty of videos and read reviews that make the extra $100 seem worth it.

We're a pretty small business that's importing from Australia, so we'd have to get a good chunk of MAXTRAX sold to justify the discount, but let's do it!

I'd be interested in this as well. Used a set borrowed of one of my buddies when I got hung up on a rock just before Christmas. Basically teeter-tottering and unable to get any traction front or rear.

We stacked two and put them under a rear tire and it popped right up. We tried stacking/stuffing rocks and all that first, but nothing worked except the Maxtrax. Yeah, I could have used the winch, but the Maxtrax were way easier and way faster.

Kind of a side question - can anyone speak to the longevity of these? It seems some of the 'nubs' on the cheaper knock-offs can wear off very quickly with as little as one use. Wondering how Maxtrax fares.

Same as others. When used correctly, they'll last years. When used incorrectly, they'll last for about 1 extraction. Bottom line, avoid wheel spin. it's the nature of the beast when using these plastics.

I know it's been a year, but I would be interested in another group but for maxtrax.
I had to use mine yet again this weekend as we broke through the ice crust and sunk down into about three feet of snow. I completely forgot to pack my shovel and if it weren't for the maxtrax I would have had to walk to find help.

Needless to say, I love em, and want another set. 4 would be perfect for my needs.
