This is a question I've wondered, as my 97 is over 150,000mi, with seemingly tons of life left.

Like you, routine maintenance has been just about all I've had to do, save for a rack & pinion unit that died last summer. I blame valet parking (I park in New York City every day in a valet garage)...those cats squeal around tight corners like Mario friggin' Andretti, and my heavy LT265/70R16 BFG All-Terrains worked the fluid hard until a seal finally blew.

I also replaced my shocks with Bilsteins, but that was preference, not part failure.

I'm hoping to get completely tired of the truck before I'd ever "need" to replace it, and I'd love to see about 2 dozen replies from 200,000mi + 4runner owners...

I will have to have my rack and pinion components relevant to the power steering replaced. $1400 will be the price. Weirdly enough and to some extent because I am lacking to properly know understand such things (parts, components) in a car for that matter even a 4Runner... I just do not know why or how this would be the case (having to replace such a thing as a rack and pinion component(s) relevant to the power steering system). I have taken as much care with the 4Runner as I could.

i got mine less then a month ago with 129,562 miles on it. i now have 131,683. 2k miles and i dont even have my temp tags off yet haha. i love this truck and will be getting another one when i find a local one in 5speed with elocker

just brought home a 02 SR5, 260,000K, runs like new. Black.........Nice. Going thru it top to bottom to make sure everything is good. If any one knows of a good source of used parts in Canada, let me know.

Bought her 3 weeks ago with 203895 and now she sits at 204118. Wasn't thrilled about the over 200k mileage but she runs like new and was very well taken care of!

4 years ago I was introduced to my future wife, and after finding out she lived 6 hours away from me I knew I had to find a replacement for my beloved 1989 Bronco, I had that truck for 19 years and never thought I would want anything else... But I realized I needed the most reliable SUV I could find, with good MPG.

So I did my research and found that the 4runner and the Landcruiser were the last true 4X4/Daily driver trucks left in the market. Nothing else could come close to the combination of a reliable engine, heavy duty drivetrain/suspension and creature comforts.

I bought my 2000 limited 4runner in Feb of '08, it was a garage kept princess with 87k miles, and I bought it from a toyota dealer.

now 4 years later I have 192k on the odometer, all trouble free miles.

Yes, like the rest of you I have had to
replace timing belt, water pump @100k
replace rear axle seals after they leaked all over the drum brakes
constantly be annoyed with the auto hvac control
did a front brake mod- 199mm Tundra calipers and rotors
fed up with the rear sag- I added air bags and never looked back
did the 12v always on mod
also the mod to turn off the always on headlights
usually get 17 mpg average, 19 mpg highway
had to get used to the small gas tank, along with a gas gauge that drops down to empty faster than Newton's apple

I have never been happier with my choice of truck, its easy to work on (except changing the oil filter) and running all Amsoil/ Synthetic oil products I am hoping to get lots more miles out of her!!

The single best tool for a 4runner owner is having this site, thanks to all the generous guys out there who take the time to take pictures, and create step by step instructions. Because of all of your efforts I am not afraid to do all of my own work knowing that I can do it fast instead of the way I used to just dive in and hope for the best!!

Mine is at 276000. I am currently rebuilding. A piece of a spark plug broke off into the cylinder so I had had to remove the head to make sure no damage was done . . . and since I had to go that far I decided to just pull the engine and re-ring. I was going to wait til I hit 300k to re-ring but that spark plug made the job come early.

Just hit 142,000 miles on my 2002 Runner after a trip to Montana for some camping.


My girlfriend and I just bought a new 2012 Kia Forte Koup though for our daily driving needs, so my 4Runner is officially a garage queen. Which is good because I won't rack up as many miles and I can keep it a bit longer.


It'll pretty much only come out for some wheeling and camping or when it starts snowing up in the mountains!
