How many miles on your 4runner?

316k on my '99. Burns no oil, runs smooth as silk.

2002 Sport Edition

288,000 and all mine. I bought it new in August of ‘02. Only two mechanical failures: oil pressure switch and driver side rear axle seal. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance!
 
305,000 miles

My 97 has 305000 miles and still going strong.

Original: engine, transmission, front differential and transfer case, and everything else including exhaust. Rear diff went out around 2006-don't know why but has been fine ever since.

The Original alternator died just 18 months ago, with nineteen years and 280,000 miles on it. The starter is still original.

Work done: new rack and pinion about ten years ago
New radiator about ten years ago-but my fault: used regular water instead of distilled, so the plastic tanks got brittle. Fine ever since.

Now I've been fixing small stuff: electric antenna, re-painting the center caps, replaceing the driver's seat left front bolt. Also going to replace the valve cover gaskets, as they are very slightly leaking.

Runs great. Tow with it all the time.

I'll keep this forever unless some knucklehead crashes into me and truly totals it...
 
Bought a 1999 limited recently with 221xxx on it, California car that made it's way out east. It was in pretty good shape, decent service records and no significant rust on the frame.
 
Just hit 200k in my 99 Limited. Happened during a road trip so I didn't get a pic of it Bought 6 years ago with 150k, and aside from a few more cosmetic dings and scrapes, it runs better than ever and isn't showing any signs of stopping
 
New to the forum and am considering purchasing a 2002 LTD with 180k miles. I never had a vehicle with that many miles, let alone considering buying one. The price is about $6500 and don't know whether to buy it or not. I want to use it for some remote camping locations and am fearful of maybe getting stranded someplace and find myself in a real jam. How many more miles can I expect to get out of this 4x4? Is 180k on a 16 year old vehicle asking for trouble? Sorry, but I haven't had a 4Runner before and sure want to get a reliable vehicle. Thanks.

Welcome first of all! I'm a fellow MO resident as well (Webb City) and currently own 3 3rd gens. These 3rd gens are almost bullet proof if properly maintained going 300-400+K on original drivetrains. Its the rusty frames, lower ball joint failures, and pink milk shakes (transmission fluid mixing with engine coolant) to name a few common failures you need to be cautious of. Was just given a 2000 4Runner from my stepfather. Garage owned from day 1.
25 thousand Kilometers. (15,500 miles.
When I have enough replies to posts here I will make a thread asking for advice on how to keep her perfect..It's mint .. :) :)

Thanks for the welcome and it is nice to hear from another from the Show Me State. I know exactly where you are..near the Joplin area...was just down in the Springfield area a couple weeks ago, actually in Fair Play. I really appreciate the information. I had a 4Runner new in 1988, and had it for 10 years with no problems at all, but some idiot Tboned me and totalled it at a stoplight she ran. What a waste of good SUV. Anyway, saw this 2002 and for the price, couldn't resist so think I am going to buy it. I appreciate the links too.

New to the forum. May have found a diamond in the rough. Just bought an '02 Limited w/ 95000 miles. Single owner, no accidents. Interior is in near perfect condition.
 
248k and doing greet

My 1999 has 248K on original drivetrain. Overdue for another timing belt, but overall running great!
