How many miles on your 4runner?

What would you do?

I have a 99 SR5 and it has 276,000 miles on it. As it sits it is in mint condition, with a few mods like Bilstein 4600 shocks with 1' lift springs : around 13' of ground clearance. At 250,000 a ball joint came out thankful just in front of my house and not on the highway. Poured money into the truck : 4 new axels, 2 new balljoints, swaybar links, steering links, new shocks (4600 and OME Springs) Tires, and some minor engine work. She still runs great so what im asking is should i go full out with more lift, new arb or cbi bumpers for front and rear, retrofits, scs rims? Or should i buy a lower milage truck and mod that.

191k on my '99 SR5.

Been through the failed u-joints on the driveshaft nightmare. Solved that $1,500 dealer problem by myself for about $100.

Been through the failed starter contact nightmare. Solved that $400 dealer problem by myself for about $30 and 4 hours to remove/install the starter.

What I despise most about this vehicle is the incredibly stupid design involving home maintenance oil changes. Of the dozens of vehicles I have owned, this is by far the worst for being a PITA to change the oil. One should never, ever have to access an oil filter through a wheel well. One should never, ever get 1/4 quart of oil all over the suspension just from removing the oil filter. But at least is isn't necessary to jack it up - woofreakinghoo.

That oil filter is kinda dumb. But still takes less than 10 min to change the oil. So can’t be too upset. Just think of the oil spilling as a rust prevention.

Everything else you mentioned are normal wear items. Some people just happen to get more miles out of things. My U-joint started giving me issues at 195k.
You aren’t lying, it’s a huge PITA

Just bought a 2001 SRS with 260,00 for 3k. So far so good. Putting in upper and lower ball joints and shocks. I think i got a ok deal but maybe not also

Recently purchased a 1999 Limited at 274,000 miles! I got tired of getting stuck in the snow where I live. It has its fair share of problems but I knew it would run till it rusts away.

Speaking of which.... very little rust issues! I got super lucky with this one.

Have a 2000 Limited that just turned 129,000 today. Picked it up a 4 months ago with 127k, don't drive it much as of yet but I'm sure they will go up after I get a few things done and ready to take it exploring/kayaking/camping!

I bought my 00 ltd 3 months ago with 124k. Garage kept and zero rust. Runs like a new truck, looks like a new truck. I couldn't be happier. Except for the rear defroster not working (still trying to figure that out) its great.

Recently bought a stock 2000 4Runner 4x4 SR5 with 201,000 miles. I have done the timing belt/water pump/belts/thermostat. reading all these post about pink milkshake so debating replacing the radiator. Plan is to drive it to 300m miles.

Only Check in every now and then. Have a 3rd gen my family bought off the lot with 1000 miles. It’s been my high school and college car. Have 311,657 miles on it. Drive back and forth from home (an elevation gain of 7,000 ft) no problem. It’s the mountain pig for me and buddies who are avid snowboarders (another 2,000 ft up to the resort). Runs strong. Original engine and transmission. Just maintinece on a 20 year old truck.

Just picked up a 2001 Limited with 185k miles. 1 owner, excellent service history and many recent replacement parts. Timing belt done at 120k.

Think it still has some life in it?

Yes, I bought mine with 288. She's at 316k with no problems other than a couple of wear items needing replacing(spark plugs, timing belt, oil change, etc)

just curious , how many of you high mile guys are still on original rear wheel bearings and seals.
Lots of you say the stock motor and trans and normal wear items.
part of the reason I ask, is I just had to replace my 4.10 elocker ( other one went kaboom) the only one I could find has 260k on it. Even one of the biggest wrecking yard companies on the west coast could not find one. Guess I will find out, as it is in now. Saw the 4runner it came out of, well maintained, so maybe its not original wheel bearings and seals.

I have 307,000 on my 1999 SR5 (4WD, Automatic)

No pictures but I finally past 240k miles. Ive been driving the 4runner a lot this last year so its finally climbing.

No issues since the 4wd issue( don't drive though water without good vent tubes)

AWD/4WD takes more work now but will work after a little shifting.

135k on my 97 SR-5 4x2. Slowly working through PM with the help of this forum. Purchased 6 months ago; t/b done at 90k, solid but a bit neglected. So far:

-front brakes and rotors (EBC)
-both O2 sensors (denso
-radiator, hoses, thermostat, fuel filter (OEM)
-front struts-Monroe quick strut
-rear shocks (monroe) and OME rear springs
-plugs/plug wires

next up in no particular order. clock, rear hatch struts and pass side rear mirror that will move side to side but not up/down
