How many miles on your 4runner?

my 2000 4runner SR5 4x4

201,000 miles. recently bought it from original owner and in excellent condition. I have done the timing belt/water pump/therostat/belts; put in a new sound system, new wires and plugs. Will put in a new radiator as a precaution since it looks like it has the original. Looking to add at least another 50m miles. It was shaking like crazy when I bought it but found it has directional wheels that were put on in the wrong position. Now it's as steady as can be.

Just recently did an engine swap using an engine from Japan. But the original engine in mine was at 286k when I swapped it out.

I purchased the used engine from a company in Southern California called Soken Trade Corporation in North Hollywood for $1150 out the door. They also delivered the engine to my mechanic’s shop for free since it’s only about 25 miles or less.

As far as total cost for installation, it was roughly around $2300-2400. I also had him replace the alternator to the GM CS-144 alternator along with replacing the ujoints. If I didn’t add those extras (granted the ujoints did need replacing) it would have been less than $2k.

Total for everything including the engine and installation it was $3400-3500.

I have an ‘02 4runner and the original owner.

Original owner of this '98 SR5, now has 248k miles. Been bone stock until about a year ago with the new lift, roof rack, interior upgrade.

Next mod is an E-Locker I need to swap in when I get some time.

I hope you've since gotten all that gunk cleaned out.

My first oil change post purchasing at 130k, I did a 1/3 bottle of Seafoam and got a bunch of gunk cleared out. Then put in some quality full synthetic oil in with a new filter and changed it after 1k miles to make sure I cleaned out everything gunked up inside.

Now I'm on a fresh full synth oil change with a new filter and my baby purrs

I have not! And I really didn’t plan to but now i have to. Not sure wether to take out and clean it or pour something in there disconnect the coil packs and crank it to clean it.

Given that all modern decent oil has tons of detergents in it now a days, you can probably get away with 2 quick oil changes with a little bit of seafoam to help break some of that sludge away.

Try putting in a fresh filter and some cheapo walmart oil, drive it around 40-50 miles and drain it. see how much of that gunk you can get broken down and away.

Cuz thats some nasty level of sludging

Yes, I want to replace them with 16" and more rubber but had new tires when I got it so I'm stuck for a while.

We picked up a 1999 this past summer (after a long search) to use as a weekend vehicle. It’s at 199,826 miles now. Local car and in overall great shape inside and out for its age. As preventative measures we did the following work to it: installed LED headlights, replaced the radiator, changed the brake fluid and switched to synthetic engine oil (sticker on engine showed the timing belt had been done at 160k). Lastly we purchased a spare set of used OEM rims (same 16" size and style as originals) and installed studded winter tires.

This week we took the 4Runner on a 300 mile road trip and it tackled everything from snow/ice roads to torrential rain without any issues. Just wish it had seat warmers...
