4Runner Vs Tundra

I have a 2006 4Runner...with 171K. It runs great. I am sensing that it needs a MAF replaced...slight rough idle on occasions.

I am really itching to buy a 2020 or 2021 Tundra before they do-away with the workhorse 5.7 Iforce V8. My wife has the 5.7 in her Sequoqia...it's a beast.

My 4runner is paid for and could run another 150K....but I am so in love with the tundra...

Anyone have any thoughts what they would do??

Just got my 2008 4Runner yesterday (1st one) and has 155,000mi. on it. Runs great and idles smoother than my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek.

Hi, this is my first post. I bought a '97 4runner for my wife about 5 years ago (she kept seeing them on the road and asking, "What's that? I want one of those."-- I guess I'm just lucky!)

Anyway, it had 50,000 miles on it when I bought it and now it has over 176,000 miles. Haven't done a thing to it except preventive maintenance and oil changes. Oh, and a brake job.

Question is: how many miles on your 4runner? How many miles should I expect to get?

If the frame is good and the oil has been changed they will go forever with regular maintenance! Just a couple things to watch for is the radiator. Replace it as the tranny cooling lines corrode and create “pink milkshake”. Timing belt, all 3 drive belts, valve cover gaskets will leak eventually. They are bullet proof! I have /70k on mine and it’s perfect. Timmy the toolman is awesome on YouTube for diy maintenance.

High miles!

My 2000 SR5 has somewhere around 350K miles on it.
Runs great and have done just basic maintenance (except for an idling problem which I'll address when I can post). The exact mileage is unknown since a prior owner replaced the dash (or something) so the odometer doesn't reflect the true mileage (just turned 200K).
Had it for about 3 years and it purrs like a kitten. No vital fluid leaks except for Power Steering pump, which I plan to replace soon.
Had problems with rotor warping though. When I first bought it I got hold of some vented and drilled rotors and new pads from Amazon. Great write up, but they lasted only about 6 months before warping pretty bad. Bought Brembo's and pads from AutoZone, and they have lasted me a couple of years, but they shows signs of warping too...

I plan on driving it into the ground, if that is possible.

I went through 2 sets of what I believed were very high quality rotors. Both of those replacement sets started vibrating as well. Finally bit the bullet and got Toyota OEM and it’s been 3 years and no shudder.

Make sure your caliper pins are moving freely.

274k on a 2000 V6. Not gonna lie it's beginning to show it's age, but to be fair I drive it like the beast it is. Only owned it for about 3 years of about 5k miles, and it was a beauty before I got my hands on it :guitar2:

So I just hit 300K km, not much compared to some! It is due for some TLC... I don't drive it everyday... It needs front end work- bushings, rack, BJ's. Starting to have trouble with the rear hatch. After all, its 22 years old!

That's how I feel about my 4banger - at 150k she got valve job, remachined head, new gaskets, and she's got excellent suspension and upper/lower BJs. Thing will go forever. I get offers on it whenever I take it to Toyota Now she's at 178,500 and is way more solid than my stock new one.

The "new" 1999 Sr5 is going on 161k, getting valve cover gasket done today, cam seals, etc...

2001 runner SR5. I got 204K on her. Just did a first ever fuel pump change. Asked previous owner if he did the timing on her, but he is unsure wtf!!! But after all of the miles put on her he maybe right and a timing was done at 100K. I’m going to replace belt soon just to be safe. She runs like a champ at 204K.

How do heck do some of you have little miles on your runners. I saw one post that has 70+K and it’s a 1999 wtf. I’m jealous as fu*k.
