How many miles on your 4runner?

Lol cmon man! It'll just be getting broken in by the time 2030 rolls around at that rate! (Really, though, I'm just jealous)

I'm closing upon 182,000 in my 1997.

Would you guys recommend not buying a 2000 V6 5spd with 242,000 miles on it? The owner has always kept up with maintenance and has the records to prove it. I really want to get another 3rd gen but all of the ones in my price range are high mileage

It would depend on the price. I have more miles and I trust my 2Runner to continue to take me anywhere and everywhere I want to go. It would have to be exceptionally well priced and have everything else I wanted though.

He is asking 5000. It has ss 1.2 lift with 33" duratracs

After 200,000 miles a top end failure can occur. This would include valve job, cracked head, failed head gasket ect.

It is more common than you might think.

I'm not as worried as Brian (he knows that experience better then I though), but I personally would probably keep looking. If it is up to date an ALL maintenance and the extra goodies add up to you thinking its worth it though, go for it. I don't think I would for 5k though.
Haggle the **** out of the seller though and go from there. (Pro's and Con's List are elementary but can be useful) Lastly, you've read the Buyer's Guide sticky right?
