How many sets of Wheels and tires do you have?

I'll take a picture of my spare sets with my 96 tomorrow.

1) 265/65/16 China Tires on Stock 3rd gen rims (POS beat up wheels + tires)

2) 265/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler on aftermarket 17 inch aluminum rims (DD on the 96)

3) 265/70/17 5th Gen Wheels on highway tires

4) ~34 inch Tires on 17 inch steelys (Been looking to get these rims for a while but didn't want to pay ~$800 for them) So, I picked them up with the tires for $100 off a Tranny that gave me the worst directions I've gotten in my whole life... Also in the process of making them into double-beadlocks for the crazy winter wheeling (1 PSI for the win!!)

5) 35/12.50/17 Short course competition race tires on early 4th gen rims

Well there’s a set per running vehicle so that’s 3 right off the bat. Then I have the takeoffs from my 01 and 99 limited that I store away plus a couple random spare tires that aren’t mounted. I’m not even counting my jeep’s tires cuz there’s another 2 sets right there(then there’s my dad’s jeep and his 2 sets of tires and 2 sets for his suburban(my god I have a lot of junk))..... I’m lucky that I have a very big pole barn on my family’s property to put stuff in.

I got tons of spare tires in my garage and a large stack of wheels and tires along the side of my house, I don't quite have as much room as you do... It's cool you got 3 rigs though! People always be calling me crazy for just having 2. My junk pile is very extensive too, I try to just not think about it.

Well, between my comp tires and my DD tires the gas mileage is a little different... With the good old 31s I DD on, I get around 13 MPG. I live up a huge hill and traffic flow is terrible in SLC (Utah folks just can't drive to save their lives) BUT with the 35s I get around 6-7 MPG and the truck doesn't get up to speed at all.

There is no way I'm going to put lower gearing in it to compensate for that because I always bring a different set of wheels to offroad on and it would be worse gas mileage with the correct gearing with the 35s because they weigh twice as much as the 31s.

The final problem I have is the kind of wheeling I have to do where I live, almost everywhere I go is nothing but rock and boulder fields full of sharp rocks that obliterate tires... I'm not going to drive home on a popped DD tire, I can carry a spare that doesn't match my 35s even with double lockers due to the way that I've wired up my ADD (Driving in 3WD locked up, and still make it home safe). I don't have custom armor that allows me to carry a spare 33+ tire so I have to carry a 31...

I only have the set that's on the truck. 16" 5-stars with 265-70-16 Geolandar AT/S tires.


I have never wheeled my vehicles, so never needed, not could I afford, a second set of wheels.

lol...I had a really nice spare set of stock alloys with yokohama's I couldn't sell down here for the life of me.....this young mexican kid shows up with the biggest POS toyota truck i've ever seen but it was his pride and joy. every wheel was a different size and I mean between a huge mudder and a donut spare! should have seen the grin when I gave him the set!

It's nice of you to do that! I'll probably be giving away a set of my stock wheels for reasons similar to this, some folks have helped me with my rig and haven't charged me a dang penny for it. Learn and recieve to then give and teach!

I have ran 12-15psi for years and never lost a tire. The 7" wide wheel acts as a cheap mans bead lock. Its the wide wheels that like to bust a tire off.

16 inch rim tires are expensive to get the big tires, and also pretty hard to find (for me at least) All my rims are 8-9 inches wide other than the stocks... It now makes sense why I havent gotten rock rash on them without hitting the really crazy trails. (I also hit trails on those same rims with bald 29.5s the guys with jeeps wouldn't hit with 33s or 35s that were new MTs LOL!!) Just once I ran 8 PSI to get out of the worst situation I've been in in my entire life.. I didn't blow my tire then either thankfully... I'm gonna have to tell that story one day!

Do you bring an electric tire pump or any sort of pump with you?

Yeah I have the smittybilt air compressor. I have the lower output one and it fills my 33's from 12psi to 32psi in 3-4 minutes each tire. If I get in a rough situation I try to winch out. I also avoid snow because its a PITA and you always get stuck!

Right on, I run a little $10 China man air compressor, it pumps at around 2/3 that speed... I don't enjoy bringing a winch with me so far, I've only ever been in 2 situations where it would help me and only once was I driving. It's fun to go out and get stuck in the snow!! I've got a minor addiction to it, last year I almost went off a cliff (which is the story I was referring to prior) That was because of ice and neglect.. I'm more than happy to call myself a dumbass in that scenario!

Ive almost gone over a few times. I watched my buddy in front of me climbing a hill with snow. It was actually a small creek bed with ice under the fresh snow. He went off the side of the trail and rolled about 5 times. He woke up outside the vehicle with zero injuries.

Im surprised with all the snow wheeling you only needed to winch twice. We get 8' snow drifts on the trails all the time.

Well I had a set stolen but I still have more! I will have a set of alloys with winter tires, plus a set of alloys with highway tires (Michelin LTX), plus a set of steelies with some knarlier off road tires like Falkens, for serious off roading. The steelies will allow for rock hits and be able to be hammered back into shape.
