How many zerks

There is a drive/prop shaft lube diagram I found and it shows where the grease points are on 4 runners from 96 - 99. Can someone confirm how many zerks there are on the U/J at the rear diff end. The diagram shows 2, but on my 97 Ltd. 3.4L 4wd I can only see 1.

Not talking about the 3 at the double cardan at the front of the rear drive shaft- just counting the one on the driveshaft itself or just the one on the u-joint at the rear diff?

Should be one in the rear U joint, one on the rear driveshaft just forward of the rear u joint, 3 in the double cardan joint at the front of the rear driveshaft, one on each U joint on the front driveshaft, and one for the slip joint on the front. At least that's how it is on my 2001. I just greased it today. If you can't see it pull the truck up a foot or so and see if you can see it now. It may just need to be rotated.

Thanks Unner, OK, so there is one IN the rear U joint just fwd of the rear diff but the second one just fwd of the rear U joint is not there on my 97' and I thought there should be !! I had a good look with a lamp and nothing is there to show it has broken off even. I rotated the shaft - NOTHING.
The U joint is connected to a shorter shaft at the rear that slips inside the bigger drive shaft on splines, Maybe that has to be taken out and greased !
I need someone with a 97' Ltd, 3.4 L to chime in.

what grease are you using? and what type of gun?...

i REALLY want/need to do this but i never have the tools :bash:

Mobil 1 synthetic that comes in a tube and a regular grease gun that you can pick up at autozone. The gun works kinda like a caulk gun but with a hose on the end and a fitting for the grease zerk. You can actually get both at autozone, they should be sold right next to each other.
