How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

Canada... 4runner limited black with redwood. Weather tech mats. 3m in a bunch of spots. Ko2 and rims included 52800 all in. I think list and tax was around 58. 5 percent tax

Just picked up my long awaited new T4R off the lot with the following:

Specs: 2018 TRD OR

- TRD Wheels
- TOYO Big Country AT
- 3" Lift Kit
- TRD Grill
- Smoked Badges
- All Weather Floor Mats/Cargo Mat

Pricing:

- MSRP: $39,973
- Total Vehicle Price Including Dealer Installed Options: $44,863
- Price Signed w/o Trade-in/Down Payment: $39,000

Wow that's a great deal! Is that $39,000 with taxes and fees?

It’s a system that makes the top brake light flash a couple of times when you hit the brakes. Supposedly helps the car behind you to react sooner.

Amazing. I saw this PULSE on a new TRD Pro window sticker and googled it. Funny enough I found a YouTube instructional video from PULSE educating dealership on how they can make something like 300-400% markup on this as "additional revenue opportunity." And told dealer customers would be convinced of the safety benefits.... UHM really? You'd think PULSE would avoid having that on YouTube where curious consumers could easily see how much they're being taken for. Same dealer had front driver/pass windows tint priced at double local auto trim shop installed no doubt by a much less experienced dealership employee and same for rock chip film. Theirs was "DIGISHEILD" and looked like sloppy smudged edges but they had a nice display about it in the showroom with a video looping on monitor showing a guy dragging keys or a knife across and then totally "curing" it with a heat gun, NICE. Price was 175% 3M install at reputable local auto trim shop.

I understand dealer is there to make money off you but still would be nice if buying a car was any less of a CSI exercise in 2018 than it has always been. I am convinced that only way to buy a new car at lowest possible price is to refuse to go much over invoice (or MRSP in the case of something like a TRDPro where less than MSRP is near impossible because of limited supply and high demand) on the car and avoid buying anything from the dealer THAT DOESN"T SHIP FROM THE MANUFACTURER. That includes any aftermarket or dealer adds. I know dealers throw that stuff on ahead of time but then you either have to tell them you don't want it and take it off if possible or leave it and will pay market rate (i.e. what auto trim shop would charge) if you do want it. That goes for all the funky crap the numero uno salesman (AKA the finance manager) tries to push on you at checkout. NO thank you Antitheft, NO thank you scotchguard/undercoat, No thank you downstream non Toyota warranty (AKA not warranty but mostly sucker bet extra insurance policy designed to line dealer pockets). Say no to all that stuff, call BS if they tell you that you are required to buy it and have your financing lined up so you can hold all the cards and only take dealer financing if its a better deal.

Sorry for rant, but going through this now and chaps me that I am faced with all these smoke and mirrors to buy my car.

Hi everyone, just bought a new '18 SR5 4WD.

I spent about a month getting and comparing offers from around the New England area and finally found one I loved for what I think is a good price.

MSRP was $37,250

I paid $32,650 plus dealer, registration fees for Rhode Island.

*edit to add fees: fees for registration and doc fee together were about $400

I already love the car and I'm excited to see what it has in store for me.

just purchased our first 4Runner:

SR5 Premium
MSRP = $40,634
Price = $36,000 (11.4% below MSRP)
Doc Fee = $299
Total = $36,299 (10.67% below MSRP)

+ taxes and registration (not relevant)

Purchased in Omaha, NE @ Village Pointe Toyota
Said they could sell any 4Runner at the same discount

Corwin Toyota (in neighboring suburb) couldn't touch their pricing.

Fees - Yes
Taxes - No

I wasn't able to get them to budge much due to this being a price mismatch error on their website. They said this is the final price and they will honor the price that was shown when I contacted them. If I did not take it they were relisting it at the aftermarket MSRP. I don't really know if I was hosed or not but at the end of the day I was happy.

New guy here been lurking the site for awhile now.

For all the PNW people here on site, can you point in the right direction to having a great deal with a dealership. Been wanting a sr5 premium for awhile can’t find a dealer with a good price. Any good salesman, experience, good overall customer service that helps. Thanks you!

If you haven't bought yet, I was looking into the relative cost of buying from other areas in WA. I bought my wife's jeep in Bend, OR because limited availability and know that when you bring out-of-state new car back to WA to license it, you pay tax based on your county of residence. However I think if you buy in state that perhaps it is based on dealer location. If that is true then you could stand to save a few grand just by going rural (specifically outside King/Pierce and RTA catchment). For instance while I've found Oly Toyota to be similarly expensive and I-5 Toyota in Chehalis were somewhat abrupt (almost rude I might even say) answer Q's on phone but if you go down the I-5 corridor to Dick Hannah Toyota in Kelso, they were big dealership and really nice answering questions, allowing liberal test drive and they charge way less in taxes. Also sales guy there offered to drive a 2016 Pro they had in inventory all the way up to Seattle for me if I wanted to drive and consider buying it. Didn't take them up on that cause am getting 2018 but thought that was very remarkable. I am not certain that the state won't somehow make them charge based on your county of residence but suspect they might not. Worth looking into for sure.

I got around 10% off MSRP. Let me explain what I did.

First, I was looking for something that many dealers in the area had on their lots.

Next, I found as many email addresses for either a GM or internet sales specialist for dealers in my area. I came up with a list of 15 email addresses from 15 different dealers.

Then I emailed each with something like this;

Hello,

I am looking for a 2018 4Runner and plan to buy at the end of the month. The specific vehicle is listed below. If you have or will have this vehicle in your inventory by then, please respond to this email with a “drive out” price that includes a breakdown of all fees. Vehicle model and colors must be a 100% match.

I am not interested in any lease options. I am prequalified with Capital One for 36 month financing at x%, but am open to financing through the dealership if you can provide a better rate.

The vehicle I am looking for;
—————————————
(Describe year, model, color, any desired options)

TOTAL PRICE (MSRP per Toyota.com)
$46,198
—————————————

I will buy on Saturday, 3/31, based on price and proximity.

Again, if you have or will have this vehicle by 3/31, please provide your best drive out price and include a breakdown of all fees. This is a serious request.

Note that I provided no other contact info, and specifically requested an email response. Also note that I timed this at the end of the month. My email went out about 2 weeks ahead of my planned purchase date.

4 days after after emailing 15 dealers with this very specific request, I had 5 responses. Of those, two did not provide what I asked for at all - but they wanted me to come in. BY doing it this way, I eliminated 12 dealers who simply were not interested in making a deal via email.

Now I had 3 dealers that appeared to be willing to work with me. One was close by, and honest enough to tell me that he had exactly what I wanted, but not the exterior color I was looking for. He politely asked if I would consider it, and gave me a great price and the breakdown I asked for. The other two were willing to give me 5-6 % off MSRP, and those had dealer added extras that I did not want.

By doing it this way, I eliminated those dealers that didn't want to be up front about pricing, or deal with me via email, and ended up getting 10% off MSRP. Great deal, and I think I like the MGM color better now anyway!

I did a similar thing but through a few carbuying websites, using a spam email of course. I got some decent prices and then some dealers that just offered an amazing deal of MSRP. When I shared offers in attempt to get them to lower their price some match some ignored the email all together.

Then I got an upfront offer of a little bit more than 10% off MSRP with no Bs extra fees. I wasn’t planning on buying right away but now I have a Mag Gray TRD off road premium sitting in my garage. I did have to drive an hr but no other dealer would come close.
After talking to the internet sales guy, he said he just offers fleet prices to everyone. They aren’t after making a bunch of money from one sale, they want the quantity bonuses from Toyota instead.

Offers

Received offers for the following:

#1
2018 TRD OR Premium in Black (NEW)
KDSS
Sunroof
Running Boards
All Weather Floor liners/Cargo Tray

SOFTEX Interior

MSRP is $43,134, but they are saying they will sell to me "at cost" for $40,600. Note this car has 230 miles on it...

#2
2018 TRD OR Premium in Black (NEW)
NO KDSS
Running Boards
All Weather Mats
Running Boards
Exhaust Tip
Paint protection of some kind
Sunroof
SOFTEX Interior

MSRP is $41,649, but they are offering me $38,899

This excludes about 2k in taxes, tags, fees. I am putting 15k down and trading a 2011 VW GTI with 100K miles. Both places have offered me 8K for the car.

Any thoughts? I feel like I can get lower but both dealers seem firm at this point. Any opinions, suggestions?

Sounds like a solid deal, especially compared to hot markets like CA. In LA, local dealers want 5k over sticker for Off Roads and 10k on Pro. It’s nuts.

I think you can do better.

I just bought a red ORP (Texas) very similarly spec'd to your # 2 option (lacked the all-weather mats but has tint) for $37,685.

The numbers were:

Toyota MSRP (before dealer adds): $41,745
Dealer MSRP (after dealer adds): $42,343
Dealer's final offer: $37,685

The numbers above were with no trade.

My experience is that locally, the e-mail offers were weak. They weren't treating me as a serious buyer. The price for this one came down $450 with an hour or so at the dealership. I'm happy with the deal but a skilled negotiator may have done better. Monday is the end of the month, which may help you.

I test drove one yesterday. Got a quote for an SR5 Premium, moonroof, softex third row seating. Floor liners/cargo tray, running boards, wheel locks, door edge guard, roof rack cross bars etc...MSRP is 41,687 and he quoted me at 40,887...That is NOT out the door. Seems high, right?

I asked if that was his best offer and he indicated that no matter what it won't go below 39.6 because that is what they pay for it. I did not make an offer as this was only the first place I checked out and I didn't have my trade in to be valued.

Gonna see what Costco auto program offers and check around some other dealers.

I looked at 2018 SR5 premium with moon roof, Softex 3rd row, carpet floor mats.

$40719 was MSRP

Invoice was $37500. I started at invoice then $38000. Dealer would not budge or give me a counter offer so I walked.

Was my offer too unreasonable?

Apparently, in your area, the dealer thinks he can do better. And since the dealership does nothing but sell cars all day long, he's probably right.

If that dealer can find people (suckers) to still buy at their outrageous MSRP prices, then good for them.

I'll continue to search until I can find one for $4000 off MSRP. :jump:

Got a Silver 2018 ORP with TDSS last night. MSRP was 43,300. I added 5 TRD wheels and paid 41,250 before taxes. I always feel like I should have paid less but it's home now:) It will be my wifes ride
