How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

We live in VT, almost had to go to Maine to find a 2021 Premium silver with sunroof. Found one in White River Jct. We got about $1,000 off. Paid like 41,500. Glad to have it.

Anyone know how common it is for S.F. Bay Area dealers to charge a outrageous "Dealer Adjustment" over MSRP? Some, but not all that I've spoken to around here charge $3,000 over MSRP, putting a TRD ORP around $52K :faint:. Any luck negotiating one that does to drop it, or is the fact that they have a waiting list a good sign that's a "take it or leave it" charge?
Also, is 4-6 months an accurate estimate to special order an ORP?
There are a couple dealers in your general area who aren't charging MSRP but at last check their wait lists are a year long. Most of those in your area are/were charging 10k+ over MSRP for a Pro when I was searching a couple months ago.

There are dealers out there who are still (only) charging MSRP but you have to search, and in my case I had to go out of state.

I don't have any experience with the wait times for the ORP as I'm in the market for a Pro, but can say that I've been waiting two months so far and I'm first in line for my color/trim combo. Assuming it finally comes through on their next allocation (which is pretty likely at this point), it's probably another 6 weeks (allocation -> build -> ship -> port -> freight -> dealer) before I'll get to drive it home.

I paid msrp for my 22 with no dealer on pkg's

plus they gave me $26500 for my 2016 TE with 92k miles

edit,

I forgot about the $500 keep it wild savings and the
dealer comped the hood clear wrap so essentially it was
$900 off msrp, good price in this climate

Are you taking one of their "standard" allocations, as opposed to picking all the options you want with none you don't? Seems like there are two ways: 1-2 months to get a dealer allocation, which means no cargo Tray. Or, order one the way I want (pick basically everything) and wait 4-6 months.
Looks like immediate S.F. area is the worst for the Dealer Adjustment gouge job. The farther you go, the more their websites just show MSRP, with no extra markup.

Based on the understanding I've built by piecing together the details on Toyota's process, dealers can handle it a few different ways:
  • Do nothing. Wait for allocation, take what Toyota sends
  • Knowing you have a specific config in mind, they track their allocations and when the model/color/trim matches, they customize the build during the window of time between the allocation date and the build date
  • Submit a 'preference order' with Toyota. If/when an upcoming allocation matches that preference order, the allocation is paired with it and the 4Runner is built according to the requested config
I'm speculating, but I think there's a small subset of dealers who modify the second approach to benefit their dealership by adding a bunch of extras to the build that a buyer may or may not want.

In my case I'm chasing a Pro so I'm really just looking to avoid extras and I'm working with an upstanding dealer so I think I'm in good shape. Unfortunately I don't have any insight into whether some options/packages (cargo tray, KDSS, etc) would be eligible for the second approach or if a preference order is the only way you can go.

Good luck in your search!

My dealer (S.F. Toyota made it sound like #1 was what they were doing. They don't have any problem selling them out a month in advance, so don't need to work too hard.
I asked the salesman if they could add the cargo tray and he was supposed to ask the sales manager if that could be done. He hasn't gotten back to me, so will hit him up next week. They are unfortunately on ethat jacks up ORPs an addi9tional $3000, Pros $10,000, so not married to them in any stretch. Just would be nice to establish a good relationship with a dealer 1/2 a mile away. Good luck to us!

ORP in Ohio

Finally found an ORP in Ohio paying MSRP.

Took awhile but figured out dealers get their allocations on Fridays so started contacting dealers Friaday and early Saturday.

Most dealers so far are MSRP in Ohio but I did run across a dealer who had what I wanted and quoted msrp only to later tell me I had to have a trade in otherwise they charged $3k more premium with no trade in. As$%&hole#@ Toyota Direct.

Mine arrives mid March. So about 4 weeks. Was told Toyota is NOT taking orders, just provide dealer your accessories and get put on a preferred list and wait. I was on 3 lists. 1 required a deposit the others did not.

They are out there you just have to figure out your locality allocation drop.

Which dealer did you go through? SW Ohio dealers are pretty much at MSRP or little below.

I bought my wife’s TRD Pro Lime at SF Toyota a week or so ago. It wasn’t an easy negotiation but in the end, we were pleased with the deal. A visit and multiple phone calls afterwards made quite an exciting experience. Was pleasantly surprise they were very easy to talk to.

It was nice to oogle at the Lexus LFA they have in the showroom

Just got confirmation that mine will arrive in the port of NYC on the 15th......should be at Bristol Toyota first week in March. They sell TRD Pro's at MSRP.....read no mkt adjustment or dealer cheeeze added

When did you place your reservation? I ordered a mag grey PRO from Valenti in Westerly, RI at MSRP. Very easy to deal with. I bought my current PRO there. Only problem is they said it may take until the end of the year to show up.

trd pro

That is the same story I got in south west florida......they had a lime rush on the lot, but in south west florida they add $699 for 2 oil changes and 4 tire rotations, 399 for keyless entry, $500 for fake wax, and $299 for LED interior light upgrade........I don't need that and could not process 2 services for $700, that's baked in in New England. I do my own oil and filter anyway.....
They also add: $299 for drivers / passegner windows (which I do want)
So when I asked them if i could order without all the add on.........they said that they usually don't make exceptions, and it would not be delivered until Sept.
As you know 4runners are due for a refresh.......who know what happens in 23, but I did not want an end of model year 4runner when I new one could be introduced.

I sent Bristol Toyota a $1000 deposit on 1.20

So here is the latest. Bristol Toyota said that its on the boat, and will arrive in port of NYC on the 15th. They expect it to take 15 to 30 days to get to their dealership.
I will believe it when they have a vin #........

I am in no rush, but if its not in my garage when I return in in April (ish). I will get my deposit back, and just keep driving my1999 landcruiser which I keep in RI. I am in the process of putting a 93 FJ80 back on the road. I have owned it for 15 years, but never registered it or put it on the road. It has 35,000 miles on it.

The 4runner we have may come back with us, or I may just leave it in south west florida

If you want to stay in touch on this - I am happy to do it. I live in Boston, but spend the summer in RI - east bay.
Sounds like you are a sox fan, we are a 10 min walk to Fenway if we don't get distracted by the bars that happen to be on the way - ha

Just curious if anyone here has had any recent experience buying a new 4Runner from Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh North Carolina. Are they selling way above MSRP? How was your dealings with them? Thank you.

I just bought a 2022 ORP for below MSRP at Tony Divino in Utah. MSRP for the ORP with moonroof and KDSS came out to be just above $48K. We paid $46,600.

WTH is this? Can you expand on this?

sorry I was not clear.........in South West Florida you really need to tint the drivers side & passengers side FRONT windows. It's really common down here, not so much in New England.
What I don't like about it is the match to the factory tinted glass.... the tint the dealer uses is slightly greenish, vs. gray / black. I don't want the gangster glass thing where it totally black, but that's what they seem to do here. In Florida there are no rules about tint level.......and no annual car inspections. You can't get a an annual inspection sticker in Boston if it does not comply with the tint rules.

I just took delivery of my 2022 ORP in Lunar Rock from Bristol Toyota last week. MSRP of $46K and change with some minor add ons. Very happy with the process. Deposit was place September 9 so just about 5 months to the day before I drove off the lot.

Please be aware that there absolutely are Statutes pertaining to tint levels in Florida.
Cross the bridge onto Palm Beach and you will be pulled over and your tint levels checked with a meter and you will be ticketed if in violation. Same in many jurisdictions.
Many do try to push the limit.

Ahhhh, this makes more sense.
