How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

bruindave I was in the same situation. No one would move beyond what I was quoted on truecar. Would do the same thing and tell them xyz dealer is offering me this and they would say to just go but it there then. haha

I think it just has to do with the region. I am in St Louis, MO and don't think they negotiate too much beyond invoice. But maybe I am wrong

i just went through this same process two weeks ago and picked up my 14 SR5 Premium w/ 3rd row and remote start last thursday. i sent an email to the internet sales people at 6 of my local toyota dealers telling them what i wanted and i would buy from the dealer that gave me the best price. none of them had the exact truck i wanted so they all needed to go and trade for it or order it. all 6 either emailed me prices or called me to discuss over the phone. i took the best price and negotiated it down to what i felt was a good deal. sticker price was $40,629 and i got it for $36,006 before tax, title, etc. i had two dealers at that price and one that was about $100 more. so they are willing to deal in the cleveland,oh area.

i'm in los angeles so i read that a lot of other people are able to do it through the internet/phone down here.

if they say we can't give you a better price on the phone, then should i just say "then i can't come in thanks"??? out of the 7-8 dealers i've contacted so far only 1 seemed to be willing to negotiate a little over email/phone.

Yeah if you are a serious buyer and they are a reputable place, they will do most of their negotiations over the phone. I've had several give me a hard time but I obviously didn't buy from them. I knew their best price before I ever walked in the door and even did a little better once I got there.

We have two dealers in our town and they weren't interested in talking price before they had an exact vehicle we were interested in buying. Neither wanted to order one for us. Using TrueCar.com, one of the three quotes was $1,000 below invoice so I contacted them. The dealer was 100 miles away. They would order it for me at that price and I now had a quote in hand too. Our two local dealers said it's a good deal, I should take it and they could not match it. A few weeks later I found the exact vehicle 300 miles away and negotiated the same price and they would deliver it. We negotiated to pick it up in exchange for them leaving the running boards on. We didn't end up using TrueCar.com but it was an easy way to start negotiations. Wouldn't hesitate to use them again but I guess it depends on your area. Change your location around and the prices will change.

Found a dealer in SC that was pleasant to work with and responsive with calls, email and texts. Very different from our local dealers so it made it worth the drive.

call more dealers. make sure you are always talking to the internet/fleet manager. feel free to send in another request and maybe a different internet manager will play ball.

being in LA you have at least 45 dealers within 50 miles range: Toyota Dealer Locator | Find a Toyota Car Dealership Near You

then should i just say "then i can't come in thanks"??? ----- say, "thanks for the response. let me know if anything changes" and move on. some dealers play games or do not have competitive pricing. if you have a number you want, give it to them up front.

Maybe stupid question, but had to ask... I'm assuming this is OTD 38,072?

Pre TTL. Unfortunately I live in an area where it's extremely hard to find a good deal on a 4Runner. I was initially looking for a 2014 Trail Premium in super white and well the SE region (Bama, Florida, Georgia, SC, NC) has about 3 of them and they were all about 1-2 months away. The dealers weren't willing to give a good price on those as hard to come by as they were and they had a lot of options I didn't want/care for. Best price I could get from a South Florida dealer was $41,800 OTD on a TE with KDSS, Mats, Cargo Deck. They wouldn't budge any further. Also you could forget about an SR5 Premium w/o a third row, all the SR5 Premiums in the region have the third row that I don't care.

Eventually went with a pretty loaded 13' LTD at 38,072 pre-TTL. Dealer was easy to deal with and it was still around $1500 under invoice. Plus I like the front end of the 13's much better than the 14's.

I think you're in a much better position being in California where it seems like there are more Toyota dealers and more 4Runners in general. Stock is hard to come by here and getting a deal on a 14 is even harder.

Here's a humorous story of how we stumbled upon our new '14.....

Just for the hell of it one night we pulled into the a dealer lot after dinner with my wife's Tacoma. We just wanted to see what the 14's looked like. We thought they changed the Taco for 2014, but now the redesign is in '15. Anyway, we went past the '14 4Runners and we loved that dark blue one sitting there. I called the dealership from my cell and got the fleet manager, told him I was on his lot. I know the guy, we've bought off him a few times in the past 15 years. We got numbers quickly, he a no BS salesman, thankfully because I hate that crap. This model was an SR5, but not the Premium model. So.... we left and went on our way, with a copy of the deal in hand. That was a good thing because what happened next was amazing. We went to another dealer closer to home the next day.

They had one of the same color sitting there, but it was a Premium model, and loaded with additional options as well. Really well equipped as compared to the other one - but the price was way out there, about $8K difference sticker-wise.

This dealer did NOT want to lose a deal to the previous dealer. It actually became humorous to us, normally I would walk out with the back and forth crap, but this was getting good. We stuck to our price, match what the previous dealer gave us or we go back over there and sign. Simple. My god, they went for it!!! LOL.....they were so pissed every time we mentioned the other dealer's name...that is what was sooo damn funny. My wife and I could not stop laughing about it.

Every time we would mention the other dealership name, the price got closer to match the other dealer's deal on a SR5 Base, without all the options. 30 minutes later, two managers came over, fleet and the GM, and they asked again what would it take for us to buy the truck, I said they must have been deaf because I have a deal for one waiting for me, if they want to sell the damn thing, match it or we walk --NOW.

LOL.... not only did they match it to the penny, but they bought down the interest rate at TFS to under 3%. I was hysterical but kept that to myself until I could walk away and talk to my wife alone - we were both laughing our butts off! I called the guy at the other dealership, and gave him the VIN. He was laughing hard as well, because somebody was getting fired on this one and it wasn't him! LOL. We left with a new '14 SR5 Premium for a price lower than the Base SR5 we looked at the previous night.

Lesson learned --- Shop around, get quotes IN HAND, and try to find some gullible dealer that's doing battle with another one in your area. Besides a killer deal I got on a Z06 Corvette a few years ago, this has got to be one of the best car deals I ever nailed in my life. If I could have, I would have bought two of them for that price.

Here's the final gig: Sticker $42,784.00 Price before tax/tags - $36,700.00

Not too shabby. That's six grand difference. The other dealer guy I know told me they were losing thousands on that thing just to move it. Right place, right time I guess, or one helluva mistake in my favor! Good luck all and hang in there for a deal!

How do you get an SR5 to ~$43K? Does it have rear entertainment system?

I just checked edmunds. I never knew that you could push an SR5 into that price range:

If the dealer agrees to sell at any price, they got what THEY needed on that deal at that time. Whether it be on a hold back, unit bonus, using TFS to finance, etc., they got what they needed.

Here's the deal I made; "I paid $600 under the made up invoice price for my SR5 Premium. A huge imagined savings when looking at the MSRP."

Some people will get a better or worse deal, but I got what I needed....(see signature line).

You like to say "imagined". When is it not imagined?

As was mentioned, it makes zero sense to post OTD price since tax, tags, license are going to vary wildly based on location.

That said, I think I got a good deal.

2014 4Runner SR5 Premium with the following options:
Convenience package (floor mats, cargo net, wheel locks)
Running boards

$36,189 + tax, tags, license

I think I've settled on a 2014 4Runner as my next vehicle. Using USAA's/TrueCar Car Buying Service I get a price of $36,997 for a SR5 4x4 Premium with sliding rear cargo floor. The thing I don't understand is when configuring the vehicle it shows me two prices - MSRP and Estimated Dealer Price. Under MSRP the line for regional fees is $65, under Estimated Dealer Price it jumps to $1,200! Here is the breakdown:

MSRP
Base - $37,615
Options - $350
Incentives - $0
Regional Fees - $65
Destination Fees - $860

Estimated Dealer Price
Base - $34,605
Options - $312
Incentives - $0
Regional Fees - $1,200
Destination Fees - $860

So what gives? I haven't noticed anything like this on any other vehicle I've looked at using this service. This would be for a purchase in the San Antonio, TX area.

I just signed on a 2014 Trail Premium Black with black SofTex, KDSS, Remote Starter, wheel locks, all weather mats, and cargo cover.

MSRP was $42,189

Got the total down to $35,500 minus trade.

The catch was that it was a dealer demo, and has 7,241 miles on it.

As for negotiating, the two best ways to get a better deal I have found are to 1) no trade, pre-approved/all cash deal (less haggling), and 2) have a good, firm price, and stick to it. Last time I did this I had a price within a half hour, and then said "don't forget the incentives" which I did not include in my original price. Worked for me.

Can't stand the damned dealer game. Just give me the car for a bit of a profit, and quit bending me over the barrel and screwing me hard. You would think that after 100+ years of rogering buyers someone would do this.

How much are people paying for 2014 4Runner OUT THE DOOR

Is this a decent deal?? Sr5 premium w/ running boards 36k before ttl plus I'm getting a good trading value on my 2012. Tittle and taxes should be around $600. I think I'm getting a good deal. I had to find a dealer 3 hrs away. Here in my city dealer want 39k for a premium they only discount $500 of msrp they can you **** themselves.

Hey all,

I'm located in so cal and have heard it is a good place to get good pricing on 4Runners. Problem is I have no experience negotiating with dealers, so really need some guidance on how to get a fair deal.

Currently looking at

2014 4Runner SR5 Premium
Nautical Blue Metallic/Graphite
4x2
Rigid Running Boards
Split Fold Flat Third Row Seat

MSRP: $38,030

What type of price should I be aiming for? I do have the option of the Costco Auto Program if that gets a better deal than negotiating with the dealer. Any dealer recommendations? Would like a smooth, simple deal.

Thanks all and hope to join the family soon!

whats your opinion

what do you guys think - finding a TE with KDSS is like finding a needle in a haystack on this side of the ocean.

TE premium with KDSS , running boards, Convienencase and preferred package -(running board, floor mats and wheel locks and roof rack)
$39,900 plus tax and MV fees

Just picked up a 2014 Trail Edition w/ KDSS, nav, and a couple other random options. MSRP was $39,943 and I paid $35,474 + TTL and had them add heated leather seats. It was actually a pretty easy negotiating process. Had competing offers from various dealers in the state and had my local dealer match the lowest.

According to Edmunds.com the Invoice price with those options is $38,719. It doesn't give an advertising fee so that could add on $500+ to the total. I got my 2014 Trail Premium with KDSS, Sliding rear deck and carpet floor mats for about $400 under invoice, with tint, and paint and interior protection thrown in. I'd try to get them to come down to $39,000, but Trail Premium's with KDSS and running boards are kind of rare right now. Good luck!
