Lurked a bunch on this thread and forum before taking the plunge. Just picked up a 2016 TE, non-kdss. Premium sound + nav, running boards (soon to be replaced with sliders), and all weather mats.

MSRP: 38,100
Out the door: 36,900 (includes 6% sales tax, fees etc)

Really stoked!!

Let me save you some time:
The 4Runner is not a comparable product to anything you have listed above. It is a BOF SUV. It has a live rear axle and a transfer case. It is a truck basically and will not ride nor handle as well as those vehicles you listed above. It gets 20 mpg... on the highway... that is the best you will do.
It tows 3500 lbs good. Going up to 5K towing regularly I would get something else to tow.
Stereos are subjective. To get the best stereo you need to buy the Limited which you can get around $40K+.
If you are thinking about a 4Runner you need to test drive test drive test drive every model you can. Again, they are BOF. Their closest competitor is a Jeep Unlimited not a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They are built to go off road so their on road manners are compromised. Everything you listed above (except the Tacoma) is built to stay on the highway, regardless of their marketing.

I'm a prospective Sr5P owner and I've been looking for good deals on the 2016's... I've seen a few ads for $36,770 on an MSRP of $38,700 but that doesn't include TTL. This is in Arizona btw.

I think -$3000 off MSRP is reasonable for a SR5P, especially for one that they have on the lot

2016 LE with auto running boards, floor mats, cargo cover, wheel locks and rear cargo cover. $42,250+ TTL. Toyota financial at 2%. No trade in and picked it up today. I had to order it and it took 33 days.
True car estimate is $44,194. They told me it was below cost but I highly doubt they lost money on the deal.

For the places I've called in colorado they are all on order and about 6-8 weeks out. No one has any in stock. My buddy told me he can get me a trail premium and add the trd pro package to make it look like a trd pro. It would be about 1500-2000 less he said. He said the kdss is better too, but I need to research

MSRP $41.5k
Purchase $38.5 plus tax, tag, title
I'm happy with the deal and got a great financing rate.

Are Cali dealers just that difficult to deal with? I'm getting the "invoice pricing is not the market for this vehicle (T4R)".

I'm looking at a 2016 SR5 Premium in Super White with these options included: Softex 50/50 split fold-flat third row seating and sliding; rigid running boards; roof rack cross bars; and floor mats/cargo mat. This particular dealer has one en route and priced at $38,500 + fees.

Is that a decent price, especially here in Cali? I'm an hour away from the San Jose area...

I can't speak for others, but I can tell you that in Texas and Colorado there is an "invoice" market....at least for the 2016 limited model. I made two phone calls and got exactly what I wanted for 500 under invoice, plus ttl. I live in Colorado Springs, called the "volume" dealer here and was offered 500 under Msrp which actually was over Msrp when you consider the rebate applied. I then called mountain states in Denver and ended up at 500 under. Funny thing is the local guy called to follow up and wanted to match to get my business, he said that they like to give everyone the chance to pay msrp, but would go to invoice. I told him to jump in a lake.

My point is that you just need to do your research and deal with the fleet/internet or whatever it is called guy over the phone or email. You can save money for mods.
