How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

MGM TRDP, remote start, cross bars, all weather mats, and exhaust tip. Full MSRP ($43,880) up here in Seattle.

First time I've paid full ask for a vehicle, but this is a sweet ride!

The initial offer I got from Carson was $39,975 for a bare-bones TEP with KDSS. A similar setup but includes sliding tray, cross bars, and cargo cover from the Corona dealer was about $40,500. I still think they can move on the price a bit more. Gonna hold out a bit and see. Worst case I end up going with a 2017 LOL

Carson Toyota wanted $40500 for a bare sw TEP with kdss , I was going to buy from them but they kept telling me they were going to sell it to another buyer because I didn't want to put a deposit on it . It was still on the boat and I wanted to still shop around. They kept telling me it was the best deal since sw with black interior was hard to get .
Lucky I kept searching and found it for a cheaper price with the added options.

Purchasing advice

Hello all:

My wife and I drove a Trail Edition Premium with KDSS and are 90% ready to buy. Our salesman was pretty easy going, but his manager was more of a hard-sell type.

Anyway - he wants us to come back tomorrow to sign purchasing paperwork. He told us that he would get us a Silver Trail Edition Premium with KDSS for $39K (give or take a bit). He claimed this is his invoice cost.

That price seems reasonably fair but what do you guys think? My wife and I hardly ever buy cars and this process is a bit intimidating. Any other advice for this meeting tomorrow?

Thanks all - I have been a lurker here for a long time and I hope I have learned a few things. I definitely knew more about the 4WD system than the salesman.

Cheers, Steve.

I feel that this price is very fair considering that I've been haggling for 4 weeks and cannot get the same vehicle that low :)

Looks like it is his "invoice cost"

In order to find out what MSRP / Invoice prices are you can check Nada Guides website. I cut and paste the values below (hard to read, sorry):

Invoice (is L side column)
MSRP (R side column)

Base Price $36,243 $39,395
Destination $900 $900
Total Base Price $37,143 $40,295
Options (change)
Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (Kdss) $1,558 $1,750
Price with Options $38,701 $42,045

I did the same thing on the Kelley Blue Book website: Kelley Blue Book

I would take the KBB website with a grain of salt. They can be way off with their values in my opinion (for sure with used car values).

Good Luck!

That is very close to the lowest quote I've had for a SW TEP with KDSS and RC. I'm at $39,900 without any accessories (will buy them myself). I put my $500 deposit yesterday so crossing fingers I won't get some BS back.

Nice! How long did they quote you? Mine hits port on Thursday. Going down to the dealer to finalize accessories and sign docs on Friday. Should only be a week or two, at most, after that!

That is a good deal w/ KDSS. Enjoy the new ride!

So i found couple dealers that are willing to do $500 over invoice. So probably around $38-39k. They dont have the car, but they said they could get one in an hour (probably from longo toyota). Longo offered me $40k for the same vehicle. However their current apr rate for 4runner is at 3.45% for the tier 1+. they have to make somewhere. I might just have to get a loan through my bank.

Or just get a gx460 ($55k otd) with 0.9% apr.

I was told 12 weeks minimum.. I am ok with that but if it ends up being 5 months like some have reported well that would most certainly be a 2017 MY I think.

I was told it takes 4/5 days to know if my order was accepted. Does that sound right?

DUDE. Take that and run with it! There was one in Tacoma that I tried to get down to $900 over that, and they wouldn't come close. You'd think 4Runners would cost more over there with your winters being what they are.

If you have to special order, that's about right. In my case, the dealer was able to trade a future for another dealer's future. They had a MG one coming in, and I wanted SW, so they traded with a dealer who was getting a SW. Put the deposit down about 3 weeks ago. If your dealer has nothing slated to come in, you're kind of SOL. They'd basically have to have a TEP coming in to trade. Most dealers won't trade a TEP or TRD for an SR5, because they can make more on it. You'd have an easier time finding Waldo in Times Square on New Year's Eve than a SW TEP sitting on a lot. Lol.

Side note: Woohoo! 15th post! :-P

You are right. Fingers crossed that nothing screws up my order. If so then I'll definitely go out of state next as I'm really tired of having to pull teeth to get what I want.

I have an old wonderful Tacoma and have not shopped new in 15 years, so excuse the beginner's question:

Given how (relatively) few 2017 4Runner TRD Pro's will be made, I know I will need to be way proactive in the shopping process. But I don't know to even begin. Will it get me started to e-mail or visit local dealers and say, "How do I get a 2017 Pro"? I want to show that I'm serious. (Without revealing that I am desperate for one, of course.)

Even as an associate of southeast Toyota it's very hard for employees to get their hands on a Trd pro. Your best bet is to talk to a reputable manager at a reputable dealership and ask what the wait time is, and then ask if there is any way to push the time frame up. Unless you are really lucky and able to get one off the lot before anyone else, ordering is the best option.

I hear ya, there. I originally wanted the "Rigid Running Boards" option, but it HAS to be from the factory. No dealer in my state was getting one anytime soon with that option in any color. After doing some research, I found there were possibly some factory supply issues with those running boards that were delaying production. My dealer agreed to give me the same pricing on the dealer installed "Trail Edition" running boards, and they look similar enough that I'm not too worried. I figured 5 weeks and slightly different running boards is better than 12 weeks with the possibility of longer.

You're looking for a SW TEP w/KDSS, right? There happens to be one sitting on the lot, here in Tacoma, WA. I'm sure they'd sell it over the phone and arrange shipping. :) Also, they have a black one. Had mine not been two weeks away, I would have bought it. I was gentle on the test drive. ;)

My Experience:

May 5 : Negotiated and placed order/deposit with dealer for 2016 TRDP.

June 1 : Dealer's allocation for TRDP was confirmed (Once a month this dealer receives their allocations.) This is when everyone finds out if Toyota is granting dealer the request for the vehicle. Took almost 1 month because when I placed the order the previous allocations had already been made.

Mid June : Build and VIN number issued

July 15 : Freight Status - Completed all paperwork/financing etc w/Dealer.

July 29 : Arrived at dealer. Submitted downpayment and signed final paperwork. Drove it home.

WOW, so a wait of almost a month just to know if your order was accepted. That sets my expectation then.

My guess would be that shipping would round out around 1k.. My old volvo was about that much coming in from Portland to AL. Do you happen to know if it was loaded up with dealer add on options? That seems to be a big thing here. There's a MG TEP at the downtown dealer for 50k. Has 20" wheels and billet stuffs. No thank you! I have no clue why the local dealers here insist on doing this to every Trail they allocate (which is very very few to begin with).

Yes so the SW TEP + KD :)
