How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

I bought my vehicle on January 3rd which was the last day of Toyotathon. The vehicle was delivered to my house (bought it from Milton Ruben in GA- 3 hour drive) and they picked up my trade too.

I did 90% of the negotiating via text messages too. LOL
Super easy and was roughly 1k cheaper and received a much higher trade in compared to local dealers.

Just drove off the dealer lot with a 2016 TEP in Silver for $39.5K + TTL in SoCal. W/ KDSS, sliding rear cargo, all weather mats, and moonroof.

So where will the remaining unsold 16s go?

No way the dealers are going to sell all the 2016 4runners sitting on the lots in my area with the 17s almost here.

Definitely some good deals to be had on the 16s but I would be tempted to haggle on a 17 since the car market is getting soft even for 4runners.

Closed a deal on a 4x4 limited for $41,000 out the door including ttt. Then an even better deal on my trade. 2016 model year with MSRP of $44,948

$35k (Before tax and Lic) for a 2016 base Trail. No KDSS, does have crawl, locking dif, ATRAC, & terrain select. Various other features. MSRP was like $37,800. I probably could have done better for a 16, but there are zero 17's within 175 miles of me. This was also the only Trail I could find. A lot of SR5s and Limiteds. They also gave me $16k for my 10 SR5 which I felt was pretty good - it needed tires and had a few minor cosmetic things.

2016 Midnight Black Trail Premium w/ KDSS

Only 1 TP within 500m w/ KDSS

$42,208 MSRP
OTD incl dealer fee, ttt: $41,000
Saved just over 3k on the deal

I'll be installing 275 KO2's upon pickup to get me started, and tinting 35% in the rears and 20% on front windows

Already taking advantage of 2 group buys on Gobi Stealth & APEX Sliders

ETA: Jan 15th

Can you guys post if you had a trade or purchased all cash?
Normally if you had a trade your sales price will be much lower because they know they will make money from your trade.

So a cash sale or direct sale without a trade in, would be a better indication of the actual price.

No trade on my deal

I always negotiate the purchase and trade separately. You should know the "invoice" and what you are willing to pay. You should also know the auction values for used vehicles in your area. Going in without either is like going into a cage match wearing a straightjacket.

To take it a step further, the same applies to financing. Know your credit, get a preapproval from your bank/cu before you go in. If leasing, find the MF and residuals for the make/model/trim in your area.

Happy hunting.

You're right! You always do your homework!

But in any case.Even if you negotiate before or after?
The dealer always comes out way ahead with a trade vs. an outright sale.
So actually in the cases you have a trade you may get a better deal if you tell them up front. Then you can negotiate a better OTD price.
The amount they will pay for your trade is basically set.
Dealers only pay "Fair" trade-in Blue Book value for any vehicle. (They need to make money)

The dealer makes money on the New Sale and the Sale of the Trade.

So in cases of "trade" or "no trade"? The profit margin for the dealer is better if you have a trade-in.

From dealers point of view?

1. Purchase with trade (They make a profit off both)
2. Finance through the dealer (They make money on interest)
3. outright purchase "Cash" (least profit for the dealer)

Just something to be aware of when considering your negotiation strategy.

Net profit to the dealer has its limits, so i would argue, if you are negotiating correctly, it does not matter if there is a trade.

Theres a cost associated with acquiring the vehicle they will sell you. Rarely if ever will they sell a car without profit on top of this cost. There is a certain amount they need on top of this to cover overhead, so your goal is to get as close to that as possible. Invoice isnt cost, but getting true cost is very hard with some manufacturers, so we often settle for invoice.

Likewise with a trade, dealers will rarely pay more than auction value for a trade. Most trades are sent directly to auction so they are not willing to risk losing money. In some cases they will keep and sell the vehicle but that's because the margin of retail vs auction is appealing to them or they are in a market where the vehicle is a quick flip.

With that said, whether you trade or not does not really help you. It only helps the dealer. Maybe they make 1K with a purchase.. or 3K with a purchase and trade. They aren't sharing those spoils with you. Its no different than if you were to negotate 1K above cost and a trade value at 2K below retail.

Hey everyone, first post here. Just left the dealer and negotiated a 2016 Trail down to 36,500. Does this seem like a fair deal? I think the options were step bars, floor mats, cargo cover, and maybe a couple other odds and ends. Sticker price was around 40
