The MSRP for ours was $45,673.00
The past two vehicles I purchased, I started by going to
www.edmunds.com, and building the vehicle I wanted. Afterwards, it tells me what people are actually paying, then gives me the option to contact various dealerships to COMPETE for my business.
Within minutes, I had received contacts from several dealerships. Some gave me an "internet price". An immediate $3100 off MSRP on a TRD Pro on their lot. The downside was it was 4 hours away.
I contacted my local dealer, and attached the offer from the other dealership. The local dealer then offered $4100 "preferred customer discount". They didn't have one on the lot, but were confident they could get one quickly. I took a picture of their hand written offer on their dealership letterhead.
A week later, they were no closer to getting one. I got my $500 deposit back, then contacted another dealership that was 1.5 hours away, but had the exact vehicle I wanted. I sent them them the picture of the $4100 discount, and they soon responded they'd match that offer!
Furthermore, they wanted to close the deal the next day, the end of the month. I told them I would only be able to drive there with my wife on the upcoming weekend. They said they'd sent two drivers, and deliver it to my driveway at no extra charge.
True to their word, a semi-retired couple brought the new vehicle, and their car, along with a stack of paperwork to sign. I had already filled out the loan application, and made a deposit via a credit card.
I never pay MSRP. I only saved $4100 on this vehicle. I saved $8500 on my F150, which was a VERY similar story.
If they give you a song and dance about "there's only 5 available in the state", that was true in my case, but I was an informed shopper. Toyota only started bringing the TRD Pro to the states in Feb. From the Toyota website, you can see all the ones arriving to your state, along with details of their configuration. You can't tell which dealerships they're headed to, but it doesn't matter. MANY are on the way. Not as rare as they'd have you believe.
